We were delighted to celebrate our 25th anniversary at the Jazz Café in Reading. Many of our employees have been working at our hospital for the majority of the time we have been open, with a few being with us since day 1. We were also joined by Chief Operating Officer Nick Costa, who came along to support our wonderful team.

Last Wednesday, our Hospital Director, Elaine, and GP Liaison, Julie, hosted The Berkshire Independent Hospital’s GP and Consultant Educational Curry Night. The evening showcasing The Reading Shoulder Unit and The Reading Spinal Unit was a great success with all the GPs that attended as was the excellent food supplied by the chiefs at River Spice Restaurant. The affair was very informal giving our consultants opportunity to mingle with GP’s from around the Reading Area after a brief presentation from each for CPD points.
We also took the opportunity on the night to celebrate the Birthday of Professor Ofer Levy lead consultant Surgeon from The Shoulder Unit with cake and a chorus of Happy Birthday sung by his colleagues and GPs.

Went in yesterday to have my gall bladder removed by Mr G Jones. Everyone was welcoming and made the whole experience as painless as possible, and I was able to get home on the same day, an added bonus.

User

Very friendly staff, wonderful hospital, couldn't do enough for me. Thankyou to all who looked after me. Was very well fed too by the catering team !

My son was treated in paediatrics recently and he had the best care from start to finish. They were caring and considerate to his every need and kept him informed of the process all the way. A very positive experience all around.

User

My husband had his cataract operation yesterday and was well cared for the only thing would have been if I could have gone up to the ward with him instead of being left in the waiting room downstairs, he was waiting on his own for 2 hours so would have been nice to have kept him company for this time before going for the op.

I'm going in for shoulder surgery on 2nd Nov.

This will be my 2nd admission to this hospital as my other shoulder was operated on 3 years ago.

The staff are reassuring, friendly, compassionate and knowledgeable.

After my last admission I know I have nothing to worry about and will be very well looked after.

I went into BIH yesterday for shoulder surgery, I cannot fault the hospital, the treatment I received from the nurses, Theatre staff and Doctors was first class, the room I stayed in was also lovely and spacious. I have never felt so relaxed before surgery with no nerves at all. Would definitely recommend this hospital to anyone and hope that if one day I need surgery again that I can have it done here.

I went in yesterday (Friday 16th December 2016) as a day patient for a keyhole procedure. Staff were excellent, very professional and helpful. The private room had everything - comfortable, quiet and well equipped with a facilities. Good choice of healthy food on the menu was great too. Thank you to BIH for your help, highly recommended!

User

I was in yesterday for an Arthoscopy and lateral release, and this has been my second operation here within a year. All staff are extremely professional and can never do enough for you. Thank you to all involved, truly exceptional place.

User

I was in yesterday for a carpal tunnel op with Mr Liss.

Everyone from the receptionist to Mr Liss were so lovely and attentive and caring, I didn't retain everyone's names as I was pretty nervous but they all made me feel at ease as much as they possibly could. I do remember Caitlyn, a pre-reg I think, who took my stats and took me up to theatre and was just amazing and so kind. The anaethasist was funny and great and his assistant was also. The recovery team also made me feel at ease and cared for when I came round.

I have also had a lot of contact, mostly on the phone, with Mr liss's Secretary Christine. She has been so helpful and friendly from the beginning making sure I have appointment times that suit my long journey and sorting things out immediately which needed actioning asap.

After the procedure I was waiting in the reception area for my lift home and the receptionist offered me a cup of tea which made me feel really cared for as even at the very end they still care about you. Even Mr Liss was passing through and came over to speak to and check on me.

I would definitely recommend this hospital to anyone and everyone. Whether you are NHS, Private or self funded you get treated the same with the highest quality of respect and care.

User

I chose this hospital as an NHS patient as I'd heard they were good. I was treated excellently as soon as I arrived and my feelings of nervousness soon disappeared. All the staff were wonderful from the receptionist to the surgeon. Everyone was friendly, attentive, polite, efficient and professional. The atmosphere was very relaxing and my room with its own TV was great. The nurses were lovely and I can't thank them enough. I would recommend this hospital to anybody.

User

I can not thank all the staff enough. I missed Sally today in the old Manor house on 1st floor Reception but bless her she left me a message to say hi. Mr Ali Ghoz is a top man surgeon and always makes me feel like a special lady.

It's been a long journey for me after 2 new hip replacements and now planning a keyhole surgery on my knee so feel so at home down there and I know all the staff personally. Thank you every one for the tip top hospitality I have always received. What a great hospital and a great team.

Many thanks to u all. Xxx

User

Had a hernia op there yesterday and the staff were very pleasant and reassuring. It was lovely and quiet and nice to have my own room (I was an NHS patient). When they asked if I wanted a cup of tea after my op they bought a pot in and cups for my wife and I and also brought my daughter some squash. It was a lovely place to have the operation and I was almost hoping to stay overnight but 'sadly' they sent me home that evening.

User

Excellent care. My son had a treatment on 4th of August. Everything went smoothly, amazing staff and fantastic surgeon Mr T. Adams. Chef made my son's favorite meal not listed on the menu. Really felt welcomed and looked after. Best hospital I ever been to.

User

A hospital to be very proud of ! From free parking to smiling faces that greet you on arrival at your designated booking reception . Had an X ray about a week ago and only had to wait just under a week for an MRI scan . Now that is so satisfying to say the least .Keep up the good work to all the staff at this hospital

User

Well from my consultant appointment pre op i couldn't wish for better service. Nothing was too much trouble receptionist on the appointment was marvellous i felt i known them for a long time. The operation i had went in Tuesday morning my darling wife Diane drove me there had to be there for seven. When I arrived at reception I was shown to the room, doctor came to see me and went through procedure and any one who came in contact with me,100% i value all the staff at this hospital they deserve more than what they get

So many thanks for looking after me

My father recently had his knee replaced as a NHS patient, very well looked after, very clean and the staff were wonderful - only complaint would be the food - think everything must have been prepared in advance and frozen - sandwiches icy, soup cold and roast chicken like sawdust apparently! Shame as nutrition is important especially for elderly patients recovering from surgery and regaining their strength!

User

I was admitted to this hospital yesterday for a laparoscopic cholesystectomy. The staff were lovely and and friendly, and on account of my anxiety, they allowed my partner to stay will me until it was time for me to go to theatre.

The only downside was that he wasn't allowed back up in my room until visiting hours, which was 2 and a half hours after I was back in my room. But the staff were all very lovely and patient.

User

I went yesterday for injection in my back the staff in theatre was fantastic looking after me so well. I had chest pain so they kept me awhile and said I needed oxygen when I arrived back in the room. The nurse or sister (dark blue ) uniform brought me a tea . The next time I saw her she came in said 'you don't need that oxygen, said she would remove my needle from hand and get going home paperwork. She did ask how I felt , she didn't check on my blood pressure. The last time I came the staff were amazing. As I left with my husband he told a group of three staff I was going who sitting laughing, know one even new who I was !

Can honestly say yes I am a NHS patient but I know they applied for funding so this should not matter but I believe it does ! Very disappointed this time round.

User

I went there yesterday (13/12/16) with my 90 year dad who had eye surgery, I was little disappointed that I couldn't with him , as I had only last month, to help him undress etc but I have heard from him that the staff were really good and helpful which I appreciate . However I waited in reception for 4 hours because I wanted to be near in case anything happened! There was only water for refreshments (NHS side) and couldn't get a coffee, that's my only grudge! Otherwise thank you for treating my dad who, at the end of the day, was my priority.
