What does 'Beyond the Field' make you think about?
'Sitting in a forest, surrounded by trees. We enjoyed listening to all the sounds and trying to work out which speaker was making which sound. My daughter thought the speaker stacks were like trees - birds at the top, creatures in the middle and insects at the bottom.'
A brilliant bit of feedback from one of our visitors. 'Beyond the Field' by artist Matt Stokes is open from 11am till 4pm everyday next week.

The Club was fascinated with insects and recieved donations of specimens from members and the public. These collections were created to help identify species and to monitor environmental changes.

We all try and encourage reuse and recycling where possible so all our Museums Northumberland sites Woodhorn Museum Berwick Museum and Art Gallery Hexham Old Gaol & Moot Hall now stock reusable bamboo cups, shopping bags and lunch bags.
They are all from either sustainable sources or using recycled material and inspired by Northumberland, our collections and exhibitions.

The Puffins will have been very busy at the Farne Islands on the Northumberland Coast throughout the Spring and Summer.
We are feeling inspired by the colourful little characters and have a range of items in our shop featuring them and where to spot and photograph all sorts of birds and wildlife.

'Beyond the Field' by artist Matt Stokes.
This new exhibition helps you to experience a lost world through sound. Listen to the noises of local insects, birds and mammals that are now considered 'at risk' or 'of concern' recreated using common folk instruments from the 18th century.
'Beyond the Field' immerses you within the sounds of nature and challenges your senses to create new sights, smells and feelings as you listen.
... Although the installation conjures a place and time specific to Berwick-upon-Tweed, it invites the audience to consider the ongoing impact of human activity across the natural world.
You can experience this exhibition everyday from 11am to 4pm up to and including Sunday 22nd of September.
