Best Western Glendower Hotel Description

We are a 61 bedroom hotel, located a stones throw away from the sandy beach of Lytham St. Annes.

Hotel History & Ghostly Story

The building was founded around 1890, originally a school named "Glendower Ladies College".
During 1905, a pupil committed suicide by poisoning herself and her ghost is said to roam the corridors to this day.
By 1910 the school closed and became "The Glendower Holiday Apartments" and in 1918, the adjacent property was bought and "The Glendower Hotel" was created.
In the 1930's the hotel was once again enlarged due to the purchase of the adjacent two buildings. At this time, the hotel was owned by the Lavis family.
During WWII the larger hotels in St Annes were requisitioned by some government departments, and the Glendower Hotel housed the Ministry of Home Security.
It was bought, in 1986, by the Howarth family, who still own and run the hotel to this day. When they first purchased the hotel, there was still a large amount of the original school furniture stored in the cellars!
