In 1985, eleven years before opening in Britain, Betel (Spanish for Bethel) received its first destitute men and women off the streets of Madrid. Since that time more than 100, 000 homeless, substance abusers and socially disadvantaged have been helped throughout Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, France, Central Asia, Australia, Ukraine, Mexico, USA, Russia, Finland, Bulgaria, Northern Africa, South Africa, Czech Republic, Ireland, Mongolia, Argentina, Brazil and the UK. Betel residences host more than 2, 000 recovering men and women in 80 cities in 22 nations. Betel of Britain is a caring, not-for-profit Christian community in the heart of the UK dedicated to restoring homeless and substance-dependent people to productive, independent lifestyles. Our residences are drug- and alcohol-free, and all our residencies are totally free of charge We offer the opportunity of restoration to all persons who seek our help. Betel opened its first British base outside Birmingham in 1996 at Windmill House, owned by the Bournville Village Trust. Additional residences followed, and we've now opened centres in Nottingham, Derby, Watford, Manchester & Dublin, including three houses for female residents, providing help & hope for over 250 people in the UK alone.
