About Better West Midlands

The project seeks to provide support for 13, 290 workers who live or work in The West Midlands and who are affected by redundancy from within all sectors of the West Midlands Economy. The total project funds are £20 million over the project period up to December 2010. The project is run on behalf of a consortium of trade unions that include Unite (combined T& G and Amicus), Community, Unison, Usdaw, Ucatt, CWU, GMB and Unity who are the lead body. This partnership working with employers, worker groups and the key agencies is facilitating engagement with those affected at an early stage; often including the project in on-site consultations with management and thus promoting the learning agenda. Employer. . . . Looking to Recruit? The Better West Midlands project is also able to deliver bespoke training which meets the needs of a prospective employer if the training will secure new employment for the individual. Access to individuals involved in the Better West Midlands project is offered to you free of charge, helping you meet your recruitment needs, supplying trained individuals to fit employer demand. The Better West Midlands initiative is funded through the Skills Funding Agency - West Midlands, through European Social Fund (ESF) Co-Financing. This initiative is helping to tackle the economic downturn in the region ensuring individuals acquire the skills needed to help them return to employment as quickly as possible.
