Bettercoal is a not-for-profit, international coal mining standard , working towards a global, responsible coal supply chain. + PurposeOur purpose is to promote the continuous improvement in the mining and sourcing of coal for the benefit of all people impacted by the industry, workers and coal mining communities. + StandardThe Bettercoal Standard is called the Code. Since its launch in 2013 , the Bettercoal Code has become the internationally recognised Standard for assessing, assuring, sustaining and continually improving stringent ethical performance across the coal mining supply chain. + ESGThe Code 2. 0 is founded on 12 Principles which have, at their core, the three pillars of ESG: Environment, Social and Governance. + Coal ProducersThe Code is used by coal producers to continually improve their operations across all three pillars of ESG. Coal producers who commit to the Code, third-party site assessments and ‘Continuous Improvement Plans' are called Bettercoal Suppliers. + MembersWe welcome as members companies that do business with coal and want to ensure the coal producers they engage with are working towards operating at the highest possible ESG standards. Bettercoal members take into account our work and the performance of Bettercoal Suppliers in purchasing decisions and due diligence processes. Bettercoal and its Members work to encourage increasing numbers of coal producers, from across the globe, to commit to the Bettercoal Code and so increase the network of businesses working towards a global, responsible coal supply chain. + BettercoalHere at Bettercoal we support continuous improvement in coal mining, not only through the Bettercoal Code, but also a number of work programmes including webinars, country-specific committees, knowledge sharing and driving forward best practices. We engage and collaborate with a variety of global stakeholders including governments, NGOs, international labour unions, and other experts.
