This is England’s oldest oak forest is a wonderfully scenic place for outdoor adventures. Designated as England's first National Forest Park in 1938, this 42-sq-mile woodland had previously been a royal hunting ground and even a centre of iron and coal mining. What do you see when you view the River Wye? The cliffs beyond the far riverbank and the church steeple surmounting them; the mazy Wye itself, currently glazed with evening serenity; the Friesians grazing in the lush flood meadows; and the tree at the bottom of the hotel garden, which dominated the foreground of the whole scene.
