Saturday November 25th – All Day SAUSAGE SATURDAY

... So, it's “Black Friday” this week. Well that pales into insignificance to this.
We are delighted to announce that on Saturday November 25th, The Big Green Bookshop will be holding its now legendary Sausage Saturday. http://bit.ly/2A1mEjh
Please join us this Saturday, where we will be celebrating it not being Black Friday, by offering you a day of sizzling fun (and some great offers too).
SAUSAGES & BOOKS! What’s not to like?
We've joined forces with the superb local supplier Marky Market, who’ll be getting us three delicious types of sausage, which we’ll cook/fry up for you to enjoy throughout Saturday, while you browse our shelves.
Here’s a little bit about Marky;
Every Wednesday and Friday at 2.00am, Mark heads off to Smithfield & Billingsgate Markets, and selects some of the most delicious and freshest meat and fish, straight from source. He then delivers his orders to homes and offices throughout London. His website HERE (http://bit.ly/2jeh2Kv) gives more information about what Mark has to offer, but as one of his customers I can safely say that he picks some incredible stuff! Mark’s been a huge supporter of the bookshop over the years and we want to do something to say THANKS MARK.
There will be a vegetarian option of course.
We'll tell you about the offers nearer the time on a special Sausage Saturday Newsletter, but we think it'll be worth your while to make a trip to N22 this Saturday.
SAUSAGE SATURDAY. LOVELY.

Sunday October 29th – 6pm An Evening with Harry Leslie Smith £5 - BUY TICKETS HERE. http://bit.ly/2lc5RGj This is an event we’ve been working on for some time and I am more than thrilled that the amazing Harry Leslie Smith will be visiting the Big Green Bookshop on Sunday October 29th to discuss his new book “Don't Let My Past Be Your Future”.
... Harry’s a survivor of the Great Depression, a second world war RAF veteran and an activist for the poor and for the preservation of social democracy. In September 2014 Harry Leslie Smith electrified the Labour Party conference with his incredible speech about the NHS and since then he’s written bestselling books, including the wonderful “Harry’s Last Stand”. Don’t Let My Past Be Your Future is his latest.
Now in his nineties, Harry wanders through the streets of his youth and wonders whether anything has actually changed. Britain is at its most dangerous juncture since Harry's youth - the NHS and social housing are in crisis, whilst Brexit and an unpopular government continue to divide the country - but there is hope. Just as Clement Attlee provided hope in 1945, Labour's triumphant comeback of June 2017 is a beacon of light in this season of discontent. Britain has overcome adversity before and will do so again - a new nation will be forged from the ashes of grave injustice. Moving and passionate, Don't Let My Past be Your Future interweaves memoir and polemic in a call to arms. Above all, this book is a homage to the boundless grace and resilience of the human spirit.
There’ll be a chance to ask Harry questions and he’ll be very happy to sign copies of his book, which will be available on the night.

Wednesday September 20th – 7.00pm – 9.00pm “Is Monogamy Dead” with Rosie Wilby £3 - BUY TICKETS HERE http://bit.ly/2xdtcd9 (redeemable on Rosie's book) This is going to be amazing! Award-winning comedian and Radio 4 regular Rosie Wilby will be at the bookshop to present funny and poignant readings from her nonfiction debut 'Is Monogamy Dead?' and explores the question 'what counts as cheating?'
... In early 2013, comedian Rosie Wilby found herself at a crossroads with everything she'd ever believed about romantic relationships. When people asked, 'who's the love of your life?' there was no simple answer. Did they mean her former flatmate who she'd experienced the most ecstatic, heady, yet ultimately doomed, fling with? Or did they mean the deep, lasting companionate partnerships that gave her a sense of belonging and family? Surely, most human beings need both.
Mixing humour, heartache and science, Is Monogamy Dead? details Rosie's very personal quest to find out why Western society is clinging to a concept that doesn't work that well for some of us and is laden with ambiguous assumptions.
Rosie’s book comes highly recommended by her comedy colleagues Sara Pascoe and Viv Groskop and follows her TEDx talk of the same name. Rosie has performed at festivals including Glastonbury and Latitude and was a finalist at a Funny Women 2006.

So, last night I stayed at a very swanky hotel on the Southbank. I was there because I had to be up early to appear on the sofa on Good Morning Britain, to talk to Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid about Harry Potter. It was shorter than i'd hoped, as the previous interview had gone on longer than they'd anticipated, but I don't think I made a tool of myself. Anyway, you decide. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwMkXIgcH 9E&feature=youtu.be

User

Well, how about that. It seems that i'm going to be on Good Morning Britain on Monday to chat to Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid about the 20th anniversary of the first Harry Potter book. The researcher who contacted me said they couldn't think of anyone better to do this. I wonder why... http://www.independent.co.uk/…/harry-po tter-piers-morgan-jk…

EVENT TOMORROW! Wednesday June 14th. 7pm- 9pm Enemies of the People... With Sam Jordison & special guest? We are absolutely delighted to have Guardian journalist and author Sam Jordison here, to discuss his new book "Enemies of the People". Something has gone wrong. We're living in an age of celebratory racism, extreme inequality, uncertainty and fear. We're governed by people who claim to be populist but who seem to hate everyone. There are idiots at the wheel and we're hea...ding for a cliff in a big red bus and no one knows how to save us.
Sam Jordison’s new book Enemies Of The People reveals who has taken us to this dizzying precipice. It provides the actual, non-alternative facts about Donald Trump, Nigel Farage, Vladimir Putin and their charming friends - and also explains where they got their crazy ideas. Why did people turn so mean? How did so-called social networks like Facebook become so very anti-social? Why did anyone think it would be a good idea to privatise railways? Just how much should we fear the robots? Why is no one doing anything about Global Warming? Why is no one doing anything about Boris Johnson either?
This book explains all those vital questions and more.
Remember, though – they say history is written by the victors and fortunately, many of those currently winning can’t seem to write more than 140 characters at a time. This gives us the golden opportunity to set the record straight and snatch back the narrative. But if we’ve any chance of victory, we first need to know our enemy.
This is a free event, but please email enquiries@biggreenbookshop.com if you want to come along, so we can make sure twe can accommodate. Thanks. http://www.biggreenbookshop.com/events-di ary/info_6.html

These guys are so friendly and down to earth and can order anything in! Worth a follow on Twitter as well as a visit! (Or online order!)

User

The best, basically. Knowledgeable, friendly, fantastically helpful.

User

Run by two of the friendliest chaps you're ever to meet (Simon & Tim), not only do they have a fantastic selection in stock - if they don't, they can order it for you super quick. You can place orders online, on Twitter and they'll post to you too. And they run an impressive list of events for adults and kids alike so don't be surprised if you see they have your favourite author doing a reading there. They also run quizzes and comedy nights there. BARGASM!

User

Really friend guys that run it. Can always find something to buy and if I want something specific they can order it in with in a couple of days. Prices are always competitive. Tim and Simon are awesome. Every Monday my daughter & I go to their book club/singalong and she loves it. Best book shop EVER. Love it.

User

My favourite book shop in London, run by two ace blokes who know their books.

User

Just been to this bookshop. It's such a lovely place. Will go back soon. Warm, friendly

User

I'm biased as Simon is my brother, but that doesn't change the fact it's the best bookshop in the World!

User

I love this place and i dont even know what a book is.

User

Great selection of books and friendly and knowledgeable staff.

User

Funny helpful staff an amazing community hub of a bookshop.

User

First visited in Aug 2017. Will return. Great selection of books.

User

Fantastic local bookshop, run by lovely, friendly owners who run great events there as well as maintain a great stock of books. They can order books which often get there faster than online retailers.

User

Excellent service both online and in real life. You want a book? They'll get that book! Serving everyone from local school children to actual astronauts, BGB are the independent bookseller to go for.

User

A wonderful bookshop with a great range of books, lots of community events and some excellent quiz nights. However, my main reason for loving the bookshop is that it forces high-profile authors to visit a small side road off Wood Green High Road. Many of them have never been to Wood Green before, and the look of surprise and delight on their faces makes it all worthwhile.

User

A lovely, friendly bookshop. Think of a book and they'll try their best to find it for you, can't think of a book, they'll recommend some great ones for you. Incredible community involvement and great events at the bookshop too.

User

A local bookshop for an international clientele, as they’ll post to anywhere! This independent bookshop is such an important part of the community in Wood Green, with lots of events (‘Stories and Songs’ is so much fun) and helping local schools among what they do. You’d be unlucky to visit when one of the two owners isn’t there as they put a lot of time and effort into making the shop the best it can be. They’re really friendly and helpful and they give great recommendations based on books they’ve read, rather than what they need to sell. Anything not on the shelves, they will order and get to you asap. The world needs more places like this.
