Biko Bikes

Manchester University Student Action Bike Project seeking to promote cycling within the community through the rental /repair of reclaimed bikes.

Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays 5-7pm


Biko Bikes is a student-led project, which
contributes to a more sustainable Manchester by promoting cycling, offering affordable bicycle rental and teaching bicycle maintenance to
students.

Our new workshop is located in the basement of UMSU (take the right stairwell upon entering the SU) and head downstairs, our room is to the right once you're at the bottom of the stairs.

Bikes are rented at £1 a week (first come first serve! ) with a D-lock and lights included. A £40 cash deposit is required if you'd like to rent a bike - the deposit is returned when we get the bike, lock and lights back.

If whilst renting the bike you encounter a minor mechanical issue, don't worry, simply return the bike and we'll either fix it or replace it where possible.

You can rent a bike for up to a duration of 2 months, with the exception of 1 semester for exchange students who aren't here for the full year. The reason for this is that the rental scheme aims to provide an affordable means for people new to cycling to give riding a go rather than to be an ordinary rental service.

If after renting for 2 months you decide that you'd like to continue riding, we would be happy to offer guidance and advice on what to look for when purchasing your first bike : )
