About Bill Morris Veterans Day

The Annual Bill Morris Memorial Veterans Day features Veteran Unlimited National Bangers, b2b all Ford Escorts plus Classic Hot Rods and a massive Ford Escort display by Rallye Sport Escorts ~ All happening Sunday 24th June 2018

Bill Morris Veterans Day Description

As morning broke with beaming sunshine the gates opened allowing a waiting fleet of classic Escorts from the RS Escort Owners Club to enter and display their pride and joy.

The pits rapidly filled up and by midday they were filled with some of the most jaw dropping machines anywhere on the ovals, all ready for the action to start at 1. 30pm.

The day also saw cars such as Mk1 & Mk2 Escorts, Anglias, a Vauxhall Viva, a Wolseley 1500, Austin A30 and more racing in the Classic Hot Rods. These stunning machines put on a brilliant show as always, showing what Hot Rod racing was like in the 1960’s and 70’s. #8 Darren Owen of Chase Car Spares won the Bill Morris Memorial Trophy Race leading from flag to flag in a race that turned out to be one of the many highlights of the day. The best lap time of the day was set by Classic Hot Rod #976 Clive Richardson who set a time of 14. 766 seconds in Heat 2.

The quality of all race classes were on another level all day and we can’t thank all the competitors enough for putting on a blinding show. Who would have imagined that we would have 35 Back to Basics Bangers, the day after their huge Gold Rush round at Birmingham Wheels Raceway? The Back to Basics guys really are making the Banger racing scene at the moment, with a variety of cars, beeping horns, distorted stereos and squirting screen washers making for hilarious and fun filled budget contact racing. Hilariousness was shown by #97 Elliot Frost who rolled in his polka-dotted Nissan Micra, which are often proven to be unstable cars in the Junior Bangers.

The Veteran National Bangers were on point all day long with a wide range of vehicles raced to destruction, including a large Rolls Royce Silver Shadow driven by #78 Karl Williams, the Daimler DS420 limo of #57 Chris Baxter and #44 Dave Burrows in his Vauxhall Senator Hearse.

It was fantastic to see many new and returning faces at Hednesford Hills Raceway for this very special meeting, and we hope to see many of you back at the Pre-85 Crash Cavalcade in September, where talks have already begun as to how we can make it even better still.
