About Billy Lloyd

Billy Lloyd is an award-winning designer of ceramics for daily use. Working from a studio in south London, he marries ideas from modern industrial design with a simple, refined and elegant aesthetic. His work has been championed by design visionary Sir Terence Conran and he is a recipient of the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust. The design-through-making attitude of his studio pushes the boundaries of craft and design to explore how they can be beautifully and practically applied in domestic, public and commercial contexts. Collaborators include: Brindisa, Conran & Partners, Coya London, Cult Ceramics, Daylesford, Fennica, Heal's, Hole & Corner, Lalani & Co, London Craft Week, Rapha, The Conran Shop, The New Craftsmen and Victorinox. Billy's work has also been exhibited at Ambiente, Clerkenwell Design Week, Fortnum & Mason, London Design Festival and the Royal Academy of Arts. DESIGNSimplicity is complexity resolved. Believing in a less is more philosophy, Billy's work captures a deceptively simple design aesthetic resulting in pieces that are both contemporary in concept and timeless in style. To ensure the lifespan of his designs, he refers to these five values when developing new work: Functional: Every product must serve a positively interactive purpose. Simple: Shapes and design features should be conspicuously inconspicuous. Versatile: Where appropriate, individual products or designed components should be multi-purposeful. Efficient: Shapes must be individually and collectively designed to minimise physical effort and maximise comfort. Durable: All aspects of a product should be considered with longevity in mind, both in concept and material.
