Huge thanks to Saul Muldoon and the Goodgym runners last night for doing a bit of (initially suspicious!) digging in the dark in a random church yard 🤣😂 Read the article below to find out more....

Huge thanks to Jason Kerry and the volunteers from https://www.facebook.com/S2RCreateSpace/ this morning who spent a good few hours clearing the weeds in St John's Birkby Roots Community Heritage Garden!
We are looking for a handful of green fingered local volunteers willing to regularly pop down and keep on top of the weeds and keep the space looking neat all year round.
If you're interested please contact Susanna Shotter on 07542771518 to work out how you could get involved!

We've been busy since September making updates here and there, and are so close now to having our garden space completed.
Apologies for lack of updates recently, the attached photos give a good impression on what we've been up to, including our bench and new woodland walk, but for a better look, come on down and see for yourself.
We'll finally be doing some planting soon, digging in some winter bulbs (I can't wait), then we'll be adding the remaining plants in the spring. I...f you'd like to join us in a bit of planting get in touch, we'll be having one more community sessions before winter, when we dig in our bulbs.
Alternatively, if you'd like to take a seed pot home to germinate over the winter time, before bringing it back to plant in the spring, please let us know by sending us a message or emailing, Birkbyroots@gmail.com
As a final note, our woodland path is currently without its handrail, so be careful if using the steps.
many thanks

What a difference. From May to September. 1 more month to go and we'll be in full bloom. (sort of)

What a fantastic digging day we had. Thanks so much to S2R Create Space and all the volunteer gardeners who came and helped out. Things are really taking shape now. Looking forward to sharing it with more people this Saturday at our Heritage Open Day.

Excited for our Community Gardening Day tomorrow. If you're planning on joining us, we'll be at the garden, behind St John's Church, from 11am. We have some tools available but please feel free to bring your own if it's convenient. The brilliant S2R Create Space will be joining us and we'll have an ample supply of tea and coffee available for anyone who can help. I look forward to meeting you there.

Great meeting this morning with Jason from S2R Create Space. Also excited to join up with other garden projects in the area, Friends of cemetery road allotments, Friends of Norman Park and Birkby Community Wildlife Garden.

Following the recent digger work, preparing the ground for our garden, we're almost ready to start planting. We're therefore planning a 'Community Gardening Day' where many hands will make light work of the tasks that are left. We'll be arranging a date shortly but it would be helpful if people could indicate now whether their able and willing to volunteer an hour or two of their time to help out.
many thanks

Turning the ground over and marking out the path for the new garden. It's looking better and better.
