About Birmingham Children'S Cochlear Implant Programme

Welcome! On this page we will be sharing stories, hints, tips and other useful information to help your child get the best out of their Cochlear Implant.

Birmingham Children'S Cochlear Implant Programme Description

Since 1990 over 1200 adults and children on our programme have benefited from hearing with cochlear implants.

Cochlear Implants help children and adults with severe to profound hearing loss to hear.

We are one of the largest hearing implant programmes in the UK offering cochlear implants and middle ear implants. The children’s service is on Aston University campus and is part of Birmingham Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Hearing and ENT Services. Our adult service is part of the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in South Birmingham.

Our team includes consultant ENT surgeons, nurses, audiologists and audiological scientists, auditory-verbal therapists, speech and language therapists and administrators. We also work with colleagues in radiology, audiology and other BCH services as well as specialist teams local to our patients.

We aim to be a centre of excellence. All team members keep their knowledge and skills up to date through a range of activities. These include presenting at conferences, teaching, research and publication, and delivering training. This ensures your child receives the most up to date care.
