Birmingham St Mary'S Hospice

About Birmingham St Mary'S Hospice

Birmingham St Mary's Hospice provides end of life care and support to individuals and their families, carers and loved ones across Birmingham and Sandwell.

Birmingham St Mary'S Hospice Description

We are an independent adult hospice providing end of life care and support to people across Birmingham and Sandwell. We offer a range of services at our Hospice in Selly Oak, in people’s homes and in the local community, all of which give individuals more choice and makes our care and expertise more accessible.

[Please be aware this Facebook account is managed from 9. 00am to 5. 00pm, Monday to Friday]

Every day, we care for 400 people living with life-limiting illness, but estimate that this is only 50% of the people who need our services. It costs over £8 million each year to run Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice and over 60% of our income comes from voluntary donations.

Every penny we raise enables vital care, compassion and comfort to be available to more people whenever and wherever they need it. If volunteering is more your thing, we have a variety of exciting roles on offer and are always on the lookout for enthusiastic people to join our team. However you wish to support us, you will really will make a huge difference to local families living with life-limiting illness.

We'd like to thank everyone who donates via the Facebook platform. Unfortunately, donor details are not logged so we are unable to send personal thank yous to you all but please know that your donations are gratefully received and we value your support.

Last year, we raised more than £400 at Birmingham New Street with the help of our fantastic bucketeers! Can you help us beat this total for Big Brum Bucket 2018? Just comment below if you can give a little of your time for a worthy cause - we're looking for helpers from 9am-12pm, 12pm-3pm (Friday only) & 3pm-6pm :)

When the hospice was mentioned to me and my father I had doubts because of the horrible treatment he had in hospital, however the hospice is nothing like the hospital and ward he was on. My dad wanted to pass at home but that was not possible, he wasn't getting the care he needed by home carers and I couldn't be with him all the time at home. When he came to this hospice the staff were amazing, so caring and not just to my dad but to us a family, so accomodating! Thankyou so much st Mary's hospice and all the staff, my dad passed away with dignity and care and I couldn't of asked for anything better than you all did. I didn't want to lose my dad but him being looked after so well by all the staff helped the process and made it a little easier on us! Again thank you x

What a truly remarkable place, the care and attention given to my Grandfather was superb. You not only cared about his wellbeing but that of all of us too. Although we are all heartbroken that he has passed away, the team at St.Mary's have helped us to no end. The support we've been given is amazing we couldn't have asked for more. Grandad was treated with love and respect. The work that you all do is phenomenal from the nurses to the volunteers. Honestly you have made one of the worst times in our lives that little bit more bearable. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts The Farrar family x

The hospice staff could not have been more caring for my nan, she enjoyed being there and in her final days we were given the family room where most of our family could stay with her. Thank you all so much for all of the care that was given to my Nan and especially for baking her a birthday cake, I know she appreciated it. (Gail - 4/09/16)

St Mary's hospice is an incredible organisation that me and my family cant thank enough for the amazing care they have given and continue to give my nan until she is put to rest. I can speak on behalf of my whole family when i say our Nan has very much enjoyed her stay, so much so that she's 'felt like she's on her holidays with 5* treatment' . The fact that anyone could make her feel that way while in so much pain, means they deserve all the recognition and support in the world. You will be seeing myself and my family at all fund raising events in the future. Thank you again

So many people have to live with their loved one having suffered in their later days. I am so grateful my partner Jackie had a good death thanks to Macmillan, great NHS care and you - we were lucky to have you. Doesn't make it easy to live without her - but easier to live with her death. And your care for us, her family and friends, and for me since has been a lifeline.

One of the kindest places I have ever dealt with, my nan passed away here and the care she received was second to none.

I always raise money where I can as they need all the support that they can get to carry on doing the amazing jobs they do.

Keep up the good work

My grandad 'jack' was in the hospice for a few months. He loved every moment there.the staff looked after him and treated him as an individual.they went above and beyond.sadly grandad lost his fight, but till the end they treated him and his family with dignity.they respected our wishes and ensured we were looked after too. I'm so glad grandad got his wish to stay there and die there. Much love to all the staff.

This is my personal 'Thank You' to the wonderful people who make St Mary's Hospice at Home team so special. They nursed my beloved daughter, Jacquie, with dignity, respect and so much kindness in her final illness. They are Sue, Carol, Jenny, Sarah, Julie and Karen plus Sandy and Debbie. I have not put surnames in here - but they know who they are! I must add another very special 'thank you' to the dedicated District Nurses who came out to our many calls day and night. Everyone talked to us and looked at photos so they got to know our lovely girl, hugged us, let us make tea for them (!), understood and shared in our pain.

There are no words to describe what you all did for Jacquie and for us, her family, so just a heartfelt THANK YOU. We will never forget. Love from Lillian X

Thank you for being there when my father and our family needed you the most .
