About Birtenshaw

Birtenshaw transforms the lives of children and young adults with special educational needs and disability including Autistic Spectrum Conditions.

Birtenshaw Description

Birtenshaw was first established in Bolton in 1956 by parents determined to provide special education to their children diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy.

Birtenshaw now provides a unique range of special education and care services for children and young adults with physical disability, complex health needs and learning disability including Autism Spectrum Conditions.

Through Birtenshaw School and Birtenshaw College, we provide education for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), aged from 3 - 25 years old.

Our care services include several children’s homes, domiciliary care, supported tenancies, a children’s short break centre and an adult’s short break centre.

Our aim is to improve the quality of life of all the people we support so that they may become confident and independent members of the community and fulfil their individual potential.
