Black Anti-Racism Community Organisation

BARCO is a community Interest Company formed to improve the lives and experiences of Black people living, working, studying and visiting Brighton and Hove. BARCO was established in the summer of 2020 following the uprisings and worldwide acknowledgement of the racism Black people face in our societies. We believe in order to address anti Black racism, categorisation such as ‘BAME' and ‘BME' must be abolished. BARCO is unapologetically Black, and we currently define ‘Black' as individuals who are Black African, Black Caribbean, those who identify as belonging to the Black African diaspora, or people of Black mixed-race heritage. Our aim is to improve the lives and experiences of Black people living, working, studying and visiting Brighton and Hove through the celebration of being Black, Black culture and Black led events for the community. Our objectives are;Provide a dedicated platform for Black people to be better connected and heardCelebrate Black culture with the wider community through a variety of events
