Black Squirrel provides local tutoring in English and Maths and English proofreading and editing services.

In UK schools today, large class sizes can mean that your child is considered a statistic rather than a real person with individual learning needs. To give them specific help with areas of difficulty, one-on-one tuition is the solution.

At Black Squirrel, we have an excellent track record of helping people achieve the grades they know they are capable of, and exceeding them, providing personal help and advice and tailoring lessons to areas where the student most needs assistance.

English tutoring

We offer English Language and Literature at all levels, from primary to university. Poetry is a particular speciality, and we can help with many creative writing, comprehension and grammar issues. TEFL trained.

Maths tutoring

We can help with primary, GCSE and A Level. All areas carefully explained by an experienced tutor, with a focus on exam questions and how to handle them.

Proofreading and Editing

We offer basic proofreading and full editing services for all English texts, any subject. This can be done remotely or through personal visits.


We can either come to you, or you can visit locally in Hitchin. Located close to Hitchin Girls’ School. Regular lessons can be arranged as often as suits you.
