One of them was the Merry family who called Blakesley Hall their home from 1901-1935 and were the last residents of Blakesley Hall🏡

APRIL FOOLS DAY!
On 2nd April 1698 it was reported that “Yesterday being the first of April, several persons were sent to the Tower Ditch to see the lions washed”.🦁
Years later, during the 18th and 19th centuries, this improbable event was a popular prank in London. Those gullible enough were invited to see the annual ceremony of “washing the lions” at the Tower of London. Once arriving, they would find, of course, there was no such ceremony. They had in fact been sent on a fool’s errand!😄

Following careful consideration of the COVID-19 situation, we have decided to close all Birmingham Museums sites, including Blakesley Hall, to the public from 10am on Wednesday 18 March until Friday 1 May. We may extend the closure period in the light of developing events.
We will keep our grounds to the Historic Properties open for free for anyone who wants to use them. This meets UK Government advice on ‘social distancing’. These sites are Aston Hall, Blakesley Hall, Soho H...ouse, and Sarehole Mill.
We are looking to reschedule programmes and events where possible. If you have already purchased tickets we will contact you soon with further information.
We have made this decision in the interests of the health and wellbeing of our staff, volunteers, suppliers and visitors.
Updates will be shared on our website and social media channels. We look forward to staying in touch and welcoming you back when we reopen.
