Blenheim Lodge Guest House Description

WELCOME TO BLENHEIM LODGE

Nestled atop a Lakeland fell against acres of National Park woodlands and fields, our Bowness B& B, Blenheim Lodge, boasts panoramic views of Lake Windermere and the mountains and beyond. Whether you are travelling en-route, on business, a tourist, or simply desiring a tranquil retreat, you will find a comfortable base in our friendly Lakeland guest house.

Built in 1868 of local Lakeland stone, Blenheim Lodge has 11 bedrooms, 10 with shower en-suites and one with private facilities. Each room has tea and coffee-making facilities, flatscreen T. V. , and hair dryer. Beds are dressed with quality Dorma bedding and quality toiletries are provided. Rooms are available for double, single, twin and triple accommodation on the ground, first and second floors of our Lake District home. Each room is individually appointed and decorated with Laura Ashley colours and soft furnishings, many with pieces of beautiful antique furniture complementing the character of this refurbished Victorian home.

From our elevated position at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, where National Trust acres border our back garden, our Bowness on Windermere Bed and Breakfast boasts some of the best views of Lake Windermere. Ten of our bedrooms have stunning views of the Lake and fells beyond, some panoramic. One has tranquil countryside views to National Trust woodlands, where you may chance upon grazing deer. Our guest lounge also has spectacular views of Lake Windermere and Old Bowness, surrounded by mountains in the background.

BEDROOMS AT BLENHEIM LODGE

The Langdale is one of our most popular rooms. The size of our guest lounge, this room has far-reaching panoramic lake and mountain views over Lake Windermere. Decorated in Laura Ashley colours and soft furnishings with a small shower en-suite, The Langdale has an antique 4-poster bed with comfy chairs set before the huge triple floor to ceiling bay windows where you can sit and admire the glorious spectacular views.

Another large room, decorated in Laura Ashley colours and soft furnishings, The Fairfield, has a walk-in shower en-suite and a fantastic Louis XV suite with a 5' king-sized bed. A vintage Liberty sofa decorated in jazzy velvets set in the huge floor to ceiling triple bay windows offers an irresistible resting place, where you can sink luxuriously into plump velvet cushions as you gaze out towards the stunning views of Lake and mountain as far north as the eye can see.

The Dalesway is a romantic French boudoir with a small shower en-suite decorated in Laura Ashley colours and soft furnishings. The antique furniture in this room includes a fabulous Louis XV double bed with rococo details and a bergere daybed with its original paint and decoration still intact, complemented by pretty French wall lights with crystal drops. The Dalesway overlooks the National Park from bay windows, creating an 'away from it all' feeling amidst beautiful countryside. It is a quiet retreat with a pastoral feel, where if you are lucky, you will see wild deer grazing from the windows.

Or enjoy your beauty sleep in our stunning solid antiqued brass bed from the up market bed shop, And So To Bed. An imposing piece of furniture, this bed has a bespoke pocket sprung mattress set and is ultra comfortable! A pretty en-suite room decorated with Laura Ashley colours and soft furnishings, The Blue Room has pretty French painted antique furniture, including two dainty chairs set in the single bay window from which you can see the Lake and fells.

Situated on the ground floor, with views to the north of Lake Windermere, is a small cozy room, decorated with striking Laura Ashley colours and soft furnishings. The Poppies has a romantically styled white-painted iron bed, with some period furniture and lighting. There is a good walk-in shower en-suite.

For guests requiring single rooms, we have three of these. One of them is Belle Isle, a lovely room styled with antique French furniture, including a larger than normal 3'6" single bed. This room has a shower en-suite and looks over to the north of Lake Windermere and its surrounding mountains.

AN IDEAL LOCATION

Blenheim Lodge is ideally situated for a relaxing break. It feels 'far from the madding crowd', being quietly situated as it is at the end of a cul-de-sac and against acres of National Parkland; but if you enjoy the hustle and bustle of town, we are only 5 minutes' walk from the shops, restaurants, pubs, local tourist attractions and other amenities, such as a bank, post office, beauty salons, church, cinema, etc.

Lake Windermere and Bowness Pier are 5 minutes' walk from our door. Guests staying in our Bowness on Windermere guest house will also find that our location provides easy access by boat, bus and road links to other parts of the Lake District National Park: Windermere Ferries, only a 5-minute walk from our door, operates services that crisscross Lake Windermere to local towns and villages; whilst local buses picking up from bus stops a couple of minutes’ walk from our Bowness Bed and Breakfast offer opportunities for exploring the beautiful Lakes.

ACTIVITIES

Blenheim Lodge is great for people who enjoy activities. We have The Dales Way long distance footpath right behind our house (literally a half-minute walk from our front door! ) and we are the first guest house in Bowness en-route for The Dales Way. A number of viewpoints can be reached by meandering through lovely woodland walks behind our Bowness home and B& B, two of which boast 360-degree views of beautiful Lakeland countryside to Lake Windermere. Many tired walkers embrace the comforts of our home when they arrive to be greeted with a welcome mug of tea or coffee, biscuits for that sugary kick, and a soak in the bath or long shower for tired feet! We have outside taps for boots and a drying room for damp footwear, clothes and jackets.

Blenheim Lodge is also cyclist and biker friendly, with some private level parking for motorcycles. For the fisherman, we offer two FREE fishing permits for the Windermere and Ambleside areas on a first come first served basis. We can also help you organize sightseeing tours or guided country walks that will pick you up from our door. For those who would like to go sailing, including meals onboard, we can also help to arrange opportunities to do so.

A QUALITY EXPERIENCE

At Blenheim Lodge, we offer a breakfast which uses quality local produce, including hand-cured and cut bacon, and handmade sausages made to a special recipe by a third generation butchers. Our farm-fresh eggs, delivered daily, are large and have that tasty, yolky flavour from orangey yolks. We also offer vegetarian choices, including fresh from the oven croissants served with equally delectable muffins.

Blenheim Lodge is special to us: it is our house and home, as well as what we hope will be a wonderful personal experience for guests at our Bowness Bed and Breakfast. We believe in offering a quality service – friendly and homely with that extra personal touch! So why not come and visit with us for a few days or more (we have fantastic weekly rates), park in our private car park and hang up your keys, enjoy the beautiful scenery of the English Lakes, and forget the stresses of everyday life? And if you are celebrating a special occasion, we can arrange flowers, cake, and luxury handmade chocolate truffles in your room for your arrival - and even lunch or dinner onboard a yacht at sail on Windermere.

Here are a couple of quotes from previous guests, who stayed in The Dalesway and The Langdale rooms:

‘Janz and Robert, thank you for the warm welcome. Best holiday I have ever had. First class accommodation and hospitality. Very peaceful and relaxing here. We have seen red squirrels, deer, bats, dormice etc. '

'Thanks to Janz and Robert for another warm welcome and relaxing stay. Our third visit this year and it won’t be our last. Thoroughly enjoyable! Look forward to our next visit. '

So, come visit with us. Slip between clean, crisp white linen sheets, snuggle under soft, fluffy cosy duvets; and listen - to the sound of silence! Then snooze off, and awaken refreshed to the beauty of birdsong!

These three sheep - 2 lambs and their dam - really attracted Horatio's attention! He could not stop staring at them and wanted to jump over the fence to join them!

Gummers How has some special cows, called the Luing, which were introduced to this landscape to help control its vegetation.

We went for walkies at Gummers How today. Both photos show the dogs at the midway 'peak' on Gummers How.
The first photo of Zack looking out towards Windermere was taken on 19th April 2016. He was 9 years old then, so he was doing well to get up myriad stoney steps.
The second photo of Horatio at the same spot was taken this afternoon on 20th August 2018. Horatio is now 2 years old.

Here's Horatio enjoying a drink at High Dam. And here's Robert trying not to lose his footing when Horatio decided to move further away from its shores.

Horatio was slurping at the water puddles as we walked along this stoney path. I wonder whether it must act as a conduit for water when there is torrential rainfall.

Today's walk where a sign pointed out the route to Colwith Force did not bear fruit. Nonetheless, just look at the amazingly different shades of the greenery we saw this afternoon!

It was a bittersweet walk today at High Dam. We had only ever been there once, and it was with Zack. We had specifically taken him there because we thought he would enjoy the walk . . . which he did, in spades!
Horatio enjoyed his walk there too today.

We took Horatio for the first time to Orrest Head yesterday. The last time we went was some years back when we had taken Zack for his one and only walk there. Part of the terrain can be a little tricky and you will hear on this video someone encouraging another to walk on so that she can see these magnificent views.

What a marvel! I first happened upon Janz and Robert’s B&B when I found myself at a university conference in Glasgow. The weather turned perfect for walking. I therefore decided to extend my stay in Britain long enough to renew my love for the Lake District. I was so lucky during the peak season to find one last room with Janz and Rober; one couldn’t ask for more gracious or accomodating hosts. Blenheim Lodge is perfect for walkers (in fact you need to climb a short hill up from the busyness of Bowness-on-Windermere). Out the bay window passes all the weather of the Lakelands, with clouds and sun sparkling over the fells and dales. Spotlessly clean and meticulously cared for, the place has just about 11 rooms. I’ve now stayed in three of these, each perfectly comfortable, even borderline luxurious given the reasonable cost. Janz cooks a terrific breakfast and serves afternoon tea. With roots in Singapore and in Scotland, this is a cosmopolitan and accepting family cares about the guests.

We came looking for a four poster bed and some nice views. What we got was that and the wonderful time and hospitality of Janz and Robert!

I highly recommend staying here, it's spotlessly clean, comfortable and in an excellent location. I suspect it won't long before we head back.

User

Very nice B&B in a great location, the rooms and decor were charming, the owners were lovely and the food was good, what more do you want?

User

Stayed here during may bank holiday. Janz & Robert are absolutely lovely, very helpful & friendly. Hotel was spotlessly clean, lovely breakfast and the bed was the best I've slept in, so comfy!! The location is perfect, few mins walk from the high street and the views were beautiful. All you could hear was the birds singing-so peaceful. Will definitely recommend and return again.

My husband and I stayed at Blenheim lodge when visiting from California in August of 2015. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, had a wonderful room with a fantastic view. Janz was an absolute pleasure. We enjoyed our evening walk into town as the B & B is very close. I would highly recommend a stay at this wonderful quaint B & B.

User

Just back from a great 3 night stay. Janz and Robert were perfect hosts, the house was like home from home. Will definitely be back to explore more of the Lake District and Blenheim Lodge will be our base of choice

User

I stayed with Janz & Robert for 3 nights with my wife and her sister in Autumn 2013 - and we had a fantastic time.

Wonderful hosts in a beautiful setting well above the village with the walking tracks at your back door, and views over the lake from the front lounge.

We will definately be back.

User

I stayed at Blenheim Lodge for a couple of nights the summer of 2015. What a lovely stay. I felt well cared for, from the comfortable room to the delicious breakfast, to the advice on places to go and see. Upon arrival Janz asked what I wanted to do and suggested the perfect day for me. Would visit again in a heartbeat.

User

I spent a great 4 night at blenheim Lodge. Janz is a perfect hosts, the house was like home from home and so beautiful.my single room was so comfortable and a great view. Hop to visit again.

User

Everything about our stay at Blenheim lodge was excellent. The hosts are very friendly and know the area really well. The views from the room are incredible, photos don't show how good it is. There is an easy short walk up the hill which gives you even better view over Windermere. Room was very well presented and breakfast was excellent.

Highly recommended.

User

Blenheim Lodge is our favorite B&B in the Lake District. The location is terrific - close to downtown Bowness, close to the Dales Way, & terrific hilltop views of the Lake! The rooms are lovely and clean, the breakfast is yummy, and Janz & Robert are terrific hosts!

User

Blenheim Lodge Guest house is arguably THE best place to stay in Bowness on Windermere. The couple that own and run it are lovely and friendly and me and my wife have been lucky enough to develop a great friendship with them as we have stayed there now 4 times!

The rooms are beautifully decorated with matching decor, clean and all have ensuite bathrooms.

We're already looking forward to our next visit!

User

Beautiful spot! Janz was a wonderful host, and very helpful for what to do in the area. The accommodations were great, the rooms very clean and elegant. The breakfast was also great, very tasty and homemade. Windermere was great, the footpaths in the area are great, highly recommended. You can buy maps for the footpaths at the local travel store, it's like following a treasure map so lots of fun. 10/10, if you are in the area highly recommend staying here.

User
