Since our Hospice at Home service’s inception in 2016, we have supported more than 300 people to die at home with their families and friends by their side. Our professional and compassionate healthcare assistants have delivered over 30,000 hours of 24/7 care.
Ruth Brown, Hospice at Home Manager, says: ‘It has been an amazing three years and the success of the service could only have been a dream in the beginning. I am very proud of what we have achieved together and can’t wait for the next stage of the journey in the hope of reaching every patient in the last year of life across the High Peak, and beyond that, to share and imbed our model of care across Derbyshire.’

Dying Matters Awareness Week is a great opportunity to catch up on the ITV News ‘How We Die’ mini-series on YouTube.
Isabel from Poppy's Funerals speaks so honestly about getting us to open up and start talking about dying and death: https://www.youtube.com/watch… #DyingMatters #AreWeReady 💙

It is Dying Matters Awareness Week – giving people like you across the UK the opportunity to open up and talk about dying, death, loss and bereavement 💙✨
This year’s theme is Are We Ready? It’s a question that challenges each of us on several levels. Are We Ready for our own deaths, or the deaths of those we care about?
Blythe House provides a confidential drop-in service for anyone affected by cancer or other life limiting illness including patients, family members, carers ...or friends. You might have questions or need advice about any aspect of illness from diagnosis, treatment, finances, or end of life care including death and bereavement.
You are welcome to drop in, between the hours of 10am and 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. Or if you prefer, you can contact us on 01298 875080 or contact us online: https://blythehousehospice.org.uk/…/inf ormation-support-se…/

‘Everyone here is such a big part of my life; if I hadn’t have come to Blythe House, I would have been in a different place. We all have different experiences and diagnoses but we can all chat and relate to each other. Coming here has changed me as a person; at one stage I wouldn’t have even spoken to share my story.’
Ann attended our Living Well Service after discovering that she had breast cancer early last year. She’s now looking forward to attending our very first Glow Tw...ilight Walk in July 🎆💜
Ann says: ‘The Glow Twilight Walk is an exciting event that all members of the family can take part in. It is vital that local people support this event. I know from my personal experience with having breast cancer, the fantastic help and support that goes on at Blythe House. I passionately feel it deserves all the support we can give it, so please sign up to take part and help raise funds for this fantastic hospice.’
A big thank you to the lovely Vicki and Sarah who did a fantastic job of painting Ann's face for the photo shoot! 💜
Sign up is just £10 until the end of May! Help us to light up the Buxton night and raise vital funds for your local hospice: https://blythehousehospice.org.uk/anns-st ory-glow-twilight…/

Come along to Blythe House Hospicecare from 10am to 1pm today for our special Dying Matters event to chat about death, dying, bereavement and loss 💙
Everyone is welcome to meet and chat to local professionals including funeral celebrants, solicitors, funeral directors, florists, and death doulas, as well as members of the expert Blythe House team. There will also be creative opportunities to showcase funeral plans.
Louise Furmston, Blythe House’s Information and Support Mana...ger, said: ‘Talking about death still remains a taboo subject; people feel very uncomfortable about it. We make huge plans for births and weddings, but why don’t we spend time to plan our deaths as well? This event is aimed at bringing people together to seek advice and open up discussions between different service providers, faiths, spiritual and legal representatives.’ https://blythehousehospice.org.uk/event/d ying-matters-event/

Are you feeling inspired by Chris Morten's efforts and fancy applying to the London Marathon ballot for next year’s world famous race? 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🎉 Chris said: 'I would like to thank Blythe House Hospicecare for letting me run the London Marathon on their behalf, it was an amazing experience. To all of my family, friends and business associates who have donated to this fantastic charity, your generosity has truly blown my mind.'
Another one of our special runners who took part i...n this year’s marathon, and wishes to remain anonymous, added: ‘I was first put in touch with Blythe House when my husband was ill with heart failure. Blythe House started to send out a nurse or carer a couple of times a week and this increased as time went on until we were getting daily visits. This helped a great deal - particularly for me as I was becoming exhausted; as well as actual physical support, it was moral support at a stressful and emotional time.
‘My running helped me too. The respite care given by Blythe House meant that I could go out and run. Running is tiring, but in a very different way to the emotional stress of looking after someone with a terminal prognosis.
‘I have chosen to fund raise for Blythe House as a way of saying thank to them for their help and support and to help enable them to continue with this wonderful work for others in the future.’
Blythe House has a guaranteed space in the 2020 London Marathon. If you would like to be entered into a draw to run for us, simply apply to the main ballot before it closes tomorrow, and forward your confirmation email to: events@blythehouse.co.uk 💙

This month we are remembering and celebrating the lives of loved ones with our annual Sunflowers Memories Appeal 💛✨🌻
You can make a donation today to celebrate the life of someone you love whilst supporting Blythe House Hospicecare. Your personalised sunflower plaque will be planted in our garden throughout May.
Mike says: ‘Following Pat’s death, and after all of the important tasks were complete like registering her death and organising the funeral, I honestly did wake up o...ne morning and wonder what on earth I was going to do with myself, and what my purpose in life was anymore. Grief has been so very painful, I’ve been in some very dark places but Blythe House has been absolutely immense.
‘I am proud to plant a sunflower in Blythe House Hospicecare’s garden to celebrate the memory of Pat. I also wanted to donate towards the wonderful services that supported me in some of my darkest days following Pat’s death, and that continue to support me. ’

We’re looking forward to our Sunflowers Memories Appeal for 2019 starting tomorrow! Throughout May, the Blythe House garden will be transformed with a sea of beautiful, bright sunflowers to remember loved ones and pay tributes 🌻✨💛
Blythe House supported Mike following the death of his wife last year. He says: ‘I’ve been having counselling sessions and they have given me my quality of life back. I have been able to speak the unspoken, and get stuff off my chest. The sessions have really helped me to rediscover what my life is and how to enjoy it again.’

We are sending the best of luck to all runners taking part in the London Marathon today – including those people running to raise money for Blythe House Hospicecare! 🏃‍♂️👟🎉💙
One of our special runners, Chris Morten (pictured training in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside) says: ‘Training started off really well with a massive personal best at the Wrexham half marathon with fellow members of Buxton Athletic Club. I was on track with my plan for a sub-four hour marathon time,... however, during an early hour speed session I managed to come home with an injury that set me back for three very frustrating weeks. After plenty of rest, stretching and therapy, I’m now feeling fully fit and ready to race again.
'Past Sundays have involved running hilly 20 mile routes on the outskirts of Buxton, my longest runs to date, and I’m now scaling back the training ready for the big day. I’m nervous but confident that I can not only complete the marathon challenge but also raise plenty of money for Blythe House.’
