Set in the Far East after the war, and designed in the form of a concert party from the Song and Dance Unit South East Asia, we follow the adventures, comic and tragic, of the group’s members as they tour the jungle countryside, menaced by Communist guerrillas. With singing and dancing, lots of hilarious lines, and some wonderful characters to entertain you, why not exchange a dark November evening for the excitement of the Tropics! THIS PRODUCTION CONTAINS VERY STRONG LANGUAGE!

With only two weeks to go, start thinking about ordering your tickets for this wonderfully dark and powerful comedy....
Our next Bob Hope Theatre Actors’ Company production is the wonderful black comedy from BAFTA winner and Oscar nominee Martin Mcdonagh -The Beauty Queen of Leenane. Martin Macdonagh is very much in the public eye at the moment following the success of his film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, and the West End production of The Lieutenant of Ini...shmore, starring Aidan Turner.
The Beauty Queen of Leenane is his earliest play and it is interesting to see that his fascination with character and family relationships, together with laugh out loud comedy and some shocking, heart stopping moments are there in this early work as they are in his later film and theatre works. Our production is directed by Fiona McGahren. This is Fiona’s first time directing at the Bob Hope Theatre but she brings with her a wide range of experience both of acting at various local theatres as well as directing in fringe venues. Many of you will remember Fiona on stage in two productions at the Bob Hope Theatre in recent years. She played the Mother in Laurie Lee’s Cider with Rosie and one of the three sisters in Alan Ayckbourn’s Snake in the Grass.
Fiona is passionate about this play – she has wanted to direct it for a long time and is delighted to have the opportunity to do so at the Bob Hope Theatre. She is fascinated by the two main characters of mother and daughter and has used the creative process to explore their dysfunctional relationship. The set design shows both the claustrophobic atmosphere and the energy of the play and this is an important element of the production. She has also worked to bring out the joy of the comedy elements in the play which are golden and need to be timed to perfection. Fiona has gathered together a strong cast. The mother Mags is played by Rose Walker who has appeared many times at the Theatre, most recently in Sandcastles but also in many Eldorado productions. Eric Whiting, who plays Pato, is also familiar to our audiences having played many roles including Laurie Lee in Cider with Rosie, Henry Higgins in Pygmalion. Michael Flanagan, who delighted us as Buttons in last year’s panto, plays Ray. Maureen is played by Jessica Knibbs, an experienced actress who has recently moved into the area and is making her first appearance at the Bob Hope Theatre.
Fiona hopes that audiences will be entertained, horrified, will laugh out loud and be shocked by the packed, character driven journey, that is The Beauty Queen of Leenane.
PARENTAL DISCRETION ADVISED.

What a great day! First time bringing my daughter to a theatre setting and it was just fantastic! Came with two other family members too. Loved the actual theatre, lovely atmosphere and so easy to come in with children and get seated. Saw jack & the beanstalk. We all enjoyed the show. The actors were first class and so entertaining! Really reasonable price and we will most definitely be coming back!

Really enjoyed tonight's performance of 'Guards! Guards!'. The cast were great, very good costumes and special effects. I hadn't been to the theatre before and was pleasantly surprised by how spacious and comfortable it is. I will recommend the theatre and look forward to coming to future productions. Well done everyone!

Had my first visit to the Bob Hope Theatre this afternoon with the family and pleased to say I hope it will be the first of many trips. What a fantastic local gem! Theatre seats are comfortable, staff are friendly and fantastic and everything was so reasonably priced. I understand a lot of work has gone into revamping the theatre and it does look lovely. Ladies toilets were clean and cubicles plentiful with little queue which makes the experience so must easier with little ones!

Now for the review of Cinderella which is what we went to see. I have to say Bravo! I have been to many a panto and this one had the funniest script by a long shot. I found myself laughing from start to end and thought the ugly sisters were comedy gold! 'Cruella' in particular was so engaging and charasmatic- brilliant performance. I left very happy and wishing I could watch it over and over. Well done to all involved in pulling this show together.

User

Great time at "Jack and the bean stalk." For a cast that are amateurs, their delivery was very professional. My family and I enjoyed the whole experience and it brought me back to my own childhood.

User

A well designed small theatre enabling the audience to feel connected to the events on stage.

Lovely volunteer staff welcoming and helpful. The theatre has an interesting history and shows what can be achieved when people work together. I will certainly be visiting again from my home in Spain. 😎
