Bodywork Company International Description
Bodywork Company was founded in 1981 by Theresa and Patrick Kerr, who at the time were leading professionals in the world of dance and music.
The school grew from a series of classes taught in and around Cambridge as well as a professional touring company, the Bodywork Dance Company. At the time Theresa was teaching jazz for major performing arts colleges in London and Patrick was touring with the jazz company. The present building was acquired in 1985 - A former furniture warehouse, which was then converted into beautiful dance studios. In 1986 they saw a need for a dance foundation course to prepare students, especially late beginners for full time vocational training, the foundation course grew both in size and success and still runs today.
It was in 1990 that Bodywork introduced a three year full time course in dance and musical theatre. In 1995, the course became a registered charity and was validated by Trinity College, London in 2001 to offer Level 6 NQF Diploma in Professional Dance or Musical Theatre. In 2003 the three year course became part of the Government Dance and Drama Awards scheme. Bodywork Company is accredited by the EFA and CDET. In 2009 Bodywork began to offer the Trinity Level Grade 8 Qualification in Musical Theatre for the Foundation course, so far the students have received Distinctions in their examinations.
Bodywork was pleased to announce that as of September 2015, a Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance /Musical Theatre) became available for all Foundation Course students. The BTEC is a nationally recognised qualification and this course runs alongside the Trinity Musical Theatre qualification to create an overall programme.

Many congratulations to all of our students who achieved their Grade 5 Music Theory. In addition to their chosen main qualification, our students also have the chance to gain a Grade 5 in Popular Music Theory with London College of Music. Taught in term 1, this exam is nationally recognised as a valuable benchmark in this subject area. The course covers an understanding of how music is constructed and brings with it a wide variety of skills which students can apply directly to their vocal and musical training.

February Professional Industry Workshop day guest teacher Dane Bates •Dane started his professional training at studio la pointe in Leeds at the age of 18, after attending for a year, he then went onto train at the prestigious London Studio Centre on a full scholarship for the three year musical theatre course. •Upon graduating from London Studio Centre, Dane began his career filming for the BBC TV series,Lilies, where he played a small role featured in two episodes. Followin...g that Dane filmed the Chanel 4 and E4 Keith Lemon tribute to Michael Jacksonchamone mofo selecta as a dancer and actor. Dane followed this by starting his theatre career dancing in Cinderella (Birmingham Hippodrome); followed by Best of the Musicals (European tour); understudy Beast in Bill Kenwright’s Beauty and the Beast (Theatre Royal Windsor; later to dance in The Illusionists Live (Hammersmith Apollo, London, world arena tour). Dane danced in many fashion shows, corporate events and worked for cruise ships, as lead vocalist. •Dane’s choreography career ran simultaneously to his performing career but started whilst Dane was training where he was asked to choreograph the main stage show at Pride London in Trafalgar Square, From then Dane went on to work withXFactor finalists in a grand charity event raising money for a children's hospice. Dane assistant choreographed on a Bill Kenwright pantomime. •Danes most recent work includes working with the Ballet West company in Edinburgh, two brand new and exciting cruise ship shows for Jammy Shows and productions opening on board the Norwegian line this September, and also choreographing for the talented Jack Higgins on Britain’s Got Talentseries 10, first audition and live semi finals. Stoptober NHS campaign, “surie” Eurovision music video, louie spence Uk tour. Dane is an international teacher, and is on the regular faculty at The world famous pineapple dance studios London.

February Professional Industry Workshop day guest teacher Nikki Trow •Nikki had a successful 12 year career in TV, Film and Stage including touring the world for 5 years with international artists. She was lucky enough to utilise her variety of training from contemporary to tap throughout her career and worked with a huge range of choreographic styles. From 2007 onwards, Nikki began assisting many of the worlds top Creatives and worked on huge projects for One Direction, Gir...ls Aloud, Vodafone and prime time TV Shows. Nikki worked with Kylie Minogue for a big chunk of her career and in 2011 whilst assisting on Kylie's "Aphrodite Les Folies", she coached Kylie one on one, adapting choreography to suit her for her shows. •Since then, she has gone on to choreograph for Little Mix, Britains' Got Talent, X Factor, Strictly Come Dancing, Ed Sheeran, 20th Century Fox, Lets sing and dance for Comic Relief and more. In 2017, Nikki created a Circus Show in The Hamptons and Creatively Directed Pitch battle for BBC 1 directing performances for the legends Jermaine Jackson, Chakka Khan and Seal. •THE most important thing is that its not just about steps, she feels passionately about bringing the best out of every performer.
