Bolton Model Railway Society

Bolton Model Railway Society is an active and enthusiastic group of modelers who meet on Monday and Thursday evenings. we started off in April 2019 with 3 founding members, Mark, Tom and Alan. We had our first meeting in a little room in a social club, two weeks later we secured our first official club room on platform 5 of Bolton railway station where are membership grow from 3 to 15 in a few months. We are now back open. Club nights are back on in our unit in Bolton Market Place. We are there 19: 00 - 21: 00 every Monday and Thursday evenings. Any one is welcome to attend club night to see what we are about. We will also be having open weekends every 3rd weekend of the month. In March 2020, Bolton Model Railway Society moved to its new premises in the Market Place Shopping centre in the heart of Bolton Town Centre, where we aim to grow as a club, build new and exciting layouts and host exhibitions. We currently have two 00 gauge layouts, the first is 6ft x 4ft which is the clubs first layout and the second is a 4ft x 4ft Christmas /winter layout which was built for the Mayor of Bolton. Both of these layouts have been on display a few times and have received lots of attention. We also have The War of The Worlds layout which appeared on The Great Model Railway Challenge on channel 5 in 2019. The club operates both DC and DCC in gauges 00, N, G, 0, although we are actively seeking people with knowledge of N, G, 0 gauges. There is a small collection of books and magazines where members can have a read and chat over tea and biscuits. We are a small community group that aims to improve modelling skills within model railways, we help people socialize and interact with other people. We are also aiming to help people with mental health problems, people with dementia and the ageing. We also want to encourage the younger generation to get involved with the hobby.
