Thank you to Chris, Becky, Mark and all the staff at Boringdon Park Golf Club. Beth & Ryan’s wedding day was absolutely brilliant, the venue, food, service and everything was amazing. Couldn’t thank you all enough for your hard work. First Class.

I played Borringdon Park for the second time yesterday as part of the “FORE” Business Plymouth meeting and the course was in fantastic condition. I have played over 100 different courses over the last few years and this one is just so enjoyable. Wonderful views across Plymouth too.

The staff are all very friendly and welcoming and simply can’t do enough for you!

The next “FORE” Business meeting will be 12 July and I am really looking forward to it already.

On Friday we went to the Tina Turner Tribute evening. Having bought the tickets quite a while ago we were looking forward to a great evening. A change of plans meant that we were in Sheffield for the days leading up to this event at a competition in which our grandson was competing all week until Sunday, but we drove back to Plympton on Friday determined not to miss the dinner and the tribute act. We have enjoyed many such events at Boringdon Park and always been impressed with the service and quality of food, I have to say that we experienced a distinct drop in the standard of both on Friday evening! The welcome drinks were diluted with lemonade, the waiting staff were being trained as they served us, by a lady who was dashing around with a clipboard giving them instruction. Now I understand that staff need training but surely this should have been in advance of serving paying customers!!!

The food was ok but the cheesecake dessert was disappointing, and the coffee cups were the size of espresso cups!!

The Tina Turner Trubute act was also disappointing, the supporting band played too loudly, drowning out the singing, they performed for little more than an hour in total with a break in between the sessions. The real Tina Turner plays for a couple of hours at the very least.

We enjoyed our evening but that was mostly because of the company of the other girls at our table, they were a lot of fun!!

I came with my wife for a rare night out. The band were ok. I would not want to see them again though. Having eaten here many times now I thought the food was very poor on this occasion. I would not describe the food as chefs special buffet. There was nothing special about it. Firstly it was not really a buffet as I know it. What I had actually tasted very much like uncle bens sweet n sour from a jar with chicken although I never had any chicken on my plate. This took me back to my university days when I ate a lot of this stuff 20 plus years ago. At least I had a moment of nostalgia. My wife had lasagna. She said that was not very good either. Neither of these I would define as buffet food. We were quite rudely evicted from the restaurant as there was a society evening on. That’s fine but we could have been ask more politely. Manners cost nothing.

Anyway two more points I would like to make. I absolutely hate drinking from plastic cups. Although I do understand the reasons why. But we are at a golf club not a festival.

So I decided to go down to the golf bar downstairs as I am a member and that is where I would normally have a drink. At least down there I could have my beer in its bottle and pint in a glass. We stayed down there for an hour or so. I went back to the bar again to buy more drinks and was told sorry the bar is shut. Why no last orders called. I did actually get a drink served which I paid for on my members card. But it all felt a little like it was to much effort for these girls to actually do their job. I would have have thought this bar might have stayed open with so many members there on the premises. My only question would be why does this bar always close so early. In all other golf clubs I have played at the bar does not close until the last member drives out of the car park. All in all not that great an experience.
