Christmas Day is almost upon us. It is a wonderfully exciting time for us to spend time with our families and catch up with friends. Whilst we love to spoil our dogs and spend time with them over the holidays always bear in mind it can be stressful for them. Our homes can be much busier and there are lots of things in the house that can be harmful to our dogs. This great info graphic tells us about the potential hazards in our homes around Christmas time.
It is really i...mportant to give your dog a safe/quiet space they can retreat to at this busy time of year. If you have a lot of visitors or it becomes noisy they can retreat there and relax. As always make sure you supervise interaction with dogs and children, children can get (quite rightly!) very excitable and hyperactive at Christmas and our dogs appreciate some time out from that.
The holidays are also an ideal time to enjoy some time with our dogs - go for nice long walks, more time for play and enrichment activities and most of all have fun!

Banjo and the Born Innocent team would like nothing more for Christmas than to see an end to Breed Specific Legislation, which destroys innocent dogs 🐶 (like Banjo) based on their visual appearance and NOT on their behaviour.
Banjo is one of the lucky ones...many are not.
Please take a minute to sign our petition and let’s #EndBSL
... Wishing all of our supporters a peaceful Christmas and Happy New Year. Thank you to each and everyone of you for your support. We truly 🙏 appreciate it.

More and more people are saying NO to Breed Specific Legislation.
♦️Say NO to an unfair law. ♦️Say NO to a law that targets dogs just for the way they look. ♦️Say NO to a law that states a dog is a danger based on their measurements. ... ♦️Say NO to a law that penalises well behaved dogs and their owners based on looks. ♦️Say NO to dogs being held in kennels for months and sometimes years, with no contact with their owners. ♦️Say NO to dogs held in secret kennels that suffer from welfare issues. ♦️Say NO to unscientific an out dated law that does not keep the public safe. ♦️Say NO to a law that does not reduce dog bites and attacks. ♦️Say NO to legislation that murders dogs for their appearance.
Say NO to injustice! Say NO to BSL!

Crime has increased due to several factors, the main one being the large numbers of cuts to police forces by central government.
UK Police are failing to tackle serious crime such as knife, drugs, gangs and so forth. Police spokespeople continue to state that there are just not enough officers to give the public the kind of service that is needed.
Yet the issue of dangerous dogs being seized and in most cases, dogs who are deemed dangerous based on their looks alone and NOT b...ecause of any incident, still features highly on police radars.
We have analysed the figures and have found that over 70% of prosecutions under the Dangerous Dogs Act (DDA), are being prosecuted under Section 1 (Breed Specific Legislation) - dogs who appear of type. This is an immense waste to police resources, court time and public money.
To be clear, we understand that the police have to uphold the law and have a job to do and sometimes under difficult circumstances. However, given the levels of crime we are seeing, there are far better ways for resources and money to be deployed and at the same time, still be able to deal with the real issue of irresponsible owners and their dogs. This government must act now and repeal BSL.
This law is not working: it is not fair, it is not just and the discrimination against dogs, who look a certain way, must end.
Please take a minute to sign and share our petition for innocent dogs and their owners.

The need for a reform to the Dangerous Dogs Act is on the news again. We are delighted and humbled that for the second time in a year, our analysis of FOI documents has been published in a leading paper; this time The Telegraph. Our team has sourced unique new data from various police forces which shows the number of seized dogs suspected to be a banned breed far outweighs that of “out of control Dogs”
When there’s an outcry in the media over the seizure of a dog that caused ...injury (albeit small and in a stressful situation) it’s a shock that this unscientific and unjust part of The Dangerous Dogs Act remains in place.
Most people are pleased to see the Chow puppy back at home after the ordeal the family have just been through. Sadly, hundreds of dogs seized SOLELY for their looks don’t have the same happy ending. Almost half are destroyed and many spend a significant amount of time held in police custody.
The deaths of thousands of innocent dogs has not prevented bites and it never will.
The current legislation has failed us for 27 years - it’s time for a change!
Please help demand a reform by signing and sharing the only official petition on the government platform: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/ 223784

Dallas’s ear-to-ear grin and bright brown eyes seem to sparkle with joy. This 3-year-old pit-bull-type dog’s radiance makes it difficult to believe he escaped a life as part of a Canadian fighting ring and later became the subject of multiple court battles in a region where his breed is banned.
Now Dallas’s demeanor is leading him to a new chapter in life: He is among a small but growing number of pit bulls to train as a police K-9. Next month, after about six weeks of trai...ning to sniff out narcotics, he is set to join the force in the southwest Virginia town of Honaker.
Bruce Myers, who assessed Dallas said “He will save many lives. If he helps to take one brick of heroin off the street, that can save 1,000 people. And he will be incredibly proficient by the time he leaves here.”
When Dallas finishes training, he’ll live and work with Honaker police officer Cody Rowe. A former K-9 officer with the Virginia Department of Correction, he lobbied to establish a K-9 program in the police department.
“I worked with a lot of German shepherds, but I remember many handlers worked with pit bulls,” Rowe said. “They are incredible police dogs. … It’s amazing to watch them work.”
Bruce Myers, the Pennsylvania trainer working with Dallas, said that shouldn’t surprise anyone. “Pit bulls are misunderstood because many are improperly trained,” Myers said. “Dogs aren’t born vicious. We make them vicious. Don’t blame the dog. Blame us.”

Please sign🖊 the petition for Dave's brothers and sisters, who were all euthanised under BSL.🐶
https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/ 223784
Dave spent the first ten months of his life in police kennels along with his seven brothers and sisters, they were all seized under Breed Specific legislation along with their mother.
... Once the puppies were ten months old, the whole litter were individually assessed to see if they fitted the criteria of a Pit bull type dog.
Four of Dave's litter mates were put to sleep (as banned breeds) along with their mother.
Dave, his brother Ruben and sister Miss Piggy were the lucky ones, it was decided they did not meet the measurements or appearance of a Pit bull type dog. They were released into the care of a rescue where Dave was adopted by Kim Older on 5th August 2017.
Kim says, "When we first met Dave you could tell he had not used to being loved or cuddled, as I remember when I first bent down to give him a cuddle he didn't know what was happening, although he quickly got used to them lol! He immediately got on really well with Nellie our English Bull Terrier, so it didn't take long for us to come to the conclusion Dave was the one for us! He is a really gentle boy, has beautiful soulful eyes and is a perfect gentleman with Nellie, who if anyone knows EBT's are a breed of their own!"
This is the reality of BSL, four dogs die and three get to live, all from the same litter. You cannot deem a dog dangerous on appearance. NO short haired, muscly dog is safe while this law exists
Please sign the petition then tag, share and ask others to do the same.

During Discover Dogs we met lots of amazing supporters of all ages and backgrounds.
We were really impressed by Sam (pictured), who told us about how he met Pit bull type dogs during a family holiday to the USA 🇺🇸 - and how friendly the dogs were.
Sam became passionate about fighting BSL and now talks to his friends and wider audiences about why certain dogs have to wear muzzles in public.
... Sam reminds us that we can all make a difference and break barriers by sharing understanding.
A big thank you to Sam & his family and all our supporters at DD. Together, we can #endBSL please continue to sign and share our petition: let’s push for a potential debate in Parliament on the issues surrounding BSL. Over 30,000 people have signed, have you?

What do I think about Born innocent? Fantastic, about time, and count me in if I can help in any tiny way to end this awful law . good work all.

User

We desperately need this kind of thinking. All animals are born innocent, and stay so all their life, because they live in the moment, they have no past and know no future. We are the species that needs to be trained, to respect them, may that be treating domestic animals with kindness and giving them their personal space, as we like to have, or staying out of the way of a wild animal because it may see us a: as lunch, or b: is terrified of our proximity, and bite, but does not know that its bite may kill us.

User

This is so great and I believe it is the beginning of the end of BSL. The website is fab too. Best of luck to you all and well done :)

User

This is my kind of group love these dogs & am willing to help in any way END BSL

User

Really hope that the BSL law changes soon and admire Born Innocent who are campaigning to end this and who bring awareness to the misinformed public. No such thing as a bad dog it's the owners that are at fault.

User

People bleet on about the dangerous dogs act it's pure discrimination regarding certain types of breed every dog is different, it's the way they are cared for n brought up dogs are our life long companions not status symbols, Ignorance isn't an excuse, we need to educate people in a positive way, especially children n adults alike it's we the humans that have failed these poor dogs in the first place, These are beautiful breeds that are misunderstood . The people that made up the dangerous dog act probably know nothing about dogs . Don't punish a breed, get educated, punish the deed.

CHILDREN SHOULD BE TAUGHT TO RESPECT DOGS! !!!

It's a shame there is not as much publicity about ANIMAL ABUSE. !!!!!!!

These beautiful breeds are born innocent it's humans that have done this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

User

It's about time dogs were judged by their character and nature not by their breed, there are dangerous dogs of every breed out there and dogs made bad by by ownership! I've had 2 staffies and a bulldog and both these breeds have bad repuatations but I can vouch that they are the most reliable loving breeds I've come across. Ban BSL now and stop making innocent dogs pay with their lives. Remembering all the poor dogs who've suffered under this diabolical law.......

User

I love this group and what they do to try and change laws for so many animals.

User

Helpful, supportive, clear advice run by people who care 110% about what they are doing and ending this ridiculous law.

User

Great to have people speaking up for these beautiful misunderstood Dogs.Well done

User

Great page, great cause. Too many dogs put down purely because of breed when owners are given a warning...then allowed to then own more dogs. Keep it up folks.

User

Great organisation, but don't ever use Wheldon Law in Hemel Hemstead, told me if I plead guilty ill have my dog back in a week ! plead guilty, still waiting ! don't return calls, or put your legal aid form in in time to get an assessment, then say, what do you expect for a free service ( its paid for by the taxpayer ! ) when they wont even make a call on your behalf, treating people with disabilities like second class citizens ! terrible experience, that's still not over for me.

User

Fantastic organisation run by amazing people that work tirelessly and selflessly, always there for support and advice for people whose dogs have been seized, grateful for all your hard work x

User

Everybody needs to be aware of just how many dogs there are without homes and people need to "get over themselves" as far as perpetuating the myths that certain dogs are aggressive etc. As their name suggests EVERY dog is born innocent.

Open your minds and your hearts to these beautiful creatures who do nothing more than love you with their very souls

Email sent-You may want to like Merlin the Pit Bull Wizard on Facebook and follow him on Twitter and Instagram-he also just had a book published -The Adventures of Merlin the Pit Bull Wizard-available on line-He is trying to change the minds of individuals about Pit Bulls one mind at a time.

User

Bsl needs to stop. Too many unaggressive dogs are pts or controlled by this law. The Americans don't have a problem with pit bull types with more labradors biting than pit bulls. I have yet to meet an aggressive pit bull type. Bsl does nothing to curb the dog biting problem we have in the UK. We need to address the problem head on rather than blaming a breed. Get to the root of the problem and work on it rather than apportioning blame to a lovely breed of dog

User

Beautiful, loving, caring people, that work tirelessly to help the dogs and families effected by this disgusting cruel barbaric law x

User

Absolutely fabulous people who work tirelessly to end BSL

User

A brilliant sight. People need educating on the bull breeds. They are the most loving and loyal dog you can have. Carry on the good work xx
