The large Iron Age Hill Fort known as Borough Hill, along with associated monuments from both earlier Bronze Age round barrows and later Romano-British villa and barrow cemetery.
The hilltop continued to hold strategic importance at least throughout the Saxon period and was once again exploited in the 20th century when it was used by the BBC as the site of a long range radio transmitting station. The importance of the site was underlined by allied military use during the Second World War and subsequent Cold War period.
Almost the entire area of the hill fort is designated as a Scheduled Monument. The designation area extends beyond the holding to the north and south-east.
