Yaizaā€™s mumā€™s gazpacho. Helena Smith recreates Borough regular Yaiza Moraā€™s favourite dish using Market produce http://bit.ly/2zY1i9S

"As well as getting Spanish produce from Brindisa, I go to the veg stalls, buy spelt bread and keep well stocked with blueberries and strawberries. My work is all about promoting happiness, and for me cooking and sharing food is part of a happy, healthy life.ā€ Helena Smith talks to some of Boroughā€™s regular shoppers to find out their favourite Market haunts and ingredients. This time, friends and flatmates Yaiza and Lidia #mymarket http://bit.ly/2NxE8sQ

A celebration of local Palestinian ingredients, this aromatic recipe draws inspiration from a dish Yasmin Khan enjoyed on the breezy seafront terrace of Donyana restaurant, in the historic coastal town of Akka #meatfreemonday http://bit.ly/2uKbPQZ

Wander round the Market at the moment and youā€™ll notice, seemingly on every fishmongers and greengrocers stall, a big box of grassy, asparagus-like veg. Do you know what it is? #productoftheweek http://bit.ly/2LGj1nL

Who's stopping by to say hello today, to have lunch or pick up some bits for the week? #MondayMotivation #LoveBorough

These are just some of the dishes made by Jenny Chandler at the Demo Kitchen this month as part of her July residency on Seeds & Grains. So far as part of this series, she has explored the Americas, the Middle East & Africa and, most recently, Asia. This Thursday she brings it closer to come, cooking dishes from Europe.
Our demos take place every Thursday and Friday in the Market Hall (the big glass building!) and are free to attend. They are a great opportunity to pick up n...ew recipes, tips and tricks and to ask chefs any burning questions you might have.

With all this hot weather, sometimes all we crave for dinner is something light yet nourishing. We recommend making a big batch of Beca Lyne Pirkis's soupe au piston with comtĆ© cougĆØres. Full of seasonal summer veg and perfect for a few week night dinners. http://boroughmarket.org.uk/recipes/soupe -au-pistou

The dishes that stay with you forever do so not just because of their flavour but because of their texture, how they look, how they smell... It is a combination of all these things that give food a time and place and later evoke memories. With this in mind, Sybil Kapoor discusses her perfect plates of food for July: http://boroughmarket.org.uk/articles/the- seasonal-cook-july

The school holidays have officially begun! So surely today's #SundayBaking will be done with extra enthusiasm (as little helpers will be happy in the knowledge that any leftovers won't get gobbled up in their absence). As Angela Clutton was speaking in praise of the cherry this week (http://bit.ly/2NhO5dW), we suggest you make this Chocolate, cherry & raspberry tart from Ursula Ferrigno (http://bit.ly/2NlHcbN). De-lish!

Borough Market is closed today but we'll be back again tomorrow with a limited Market then from Wednesday onwards with a full Market. Look forward to seeing you then!

Having people over tomorrow and don't know what to cook? Jenny Chandler's fuls medames with Ethiopian injera and spiced lamb neck sounds fancy but is in fact really cheap & easy to make. Perfect for communal eating! http://boroughmarket.org.uk/recipes

It's 5pm and the Market is now closed until Monday. Thank you to all those who visited us!
Our traders do their very best to avoid any food going to waste but sadly, at the end of each week, a level of surplus is inevitable. Thankfully this is collected by volunteers from Plan Zheroes who redistribute it to local charities so that it can be turned into meals for those in need (17 815 meals so far this year in fact!) šŸ‘

"They are typically larger with more skin than the first early new potatoes of May and June" Angela Clutton discusses 'second earlies' (http://boroughmarket.org.uk/aā€¦/tuber-v irtuoso-second-earlies)
Perfect for making her crushed new potatoes with bacon & hot mustard sauce: (http://boroughmarket.org.uk/ā€¦/crushed- new-potatoes-with-bacā€¦)

"I set fire to a cake. I thought if you put the temperature down low, you could leave it for double the amount of time, so I left it in there for like six hours." Ben Haywood from the Borough Cheese Company discusses his biggest kitchen disaster. Get to know our traders better: http://boroughmarket.org.uk/ā€¦/best-of-t imes-worst-of-times-ā€¦

Rise and shine! It's early but our traders have been awake for a while getting ready for our Saturday 8am opening. For those looking to carry out their weekly shop, these first few hours of the day are ideal - fewer people so more time to chat to traders to make sure you are buying the best of the best. #boroughmarket #saturday

It is with our finest French accents that we present this: Beca Lyne-Pirkisā€™s Soupe au pistou avec gougĆØres de comtĆ©. A lovely light summery dish that makes the most of the seasonal veg available at the Market. Head to Borough Cheese Company for the comtĆ© and here for the recipe: http://boroughmarket.org.uk/recipes/soupe -au-pistou

Have you tried fuls medames? A fava bean stew, served here with spiced lamb neck, this dish is a staple from Egypt and Sudan right through to the Middle East and Syria. Delicious with Injera, a traditional Ethiopian flat bread. Recipe by chef Jenny Chandler http://bit.ly/2JDqoL6

Now that we have no royal wedding, no World Cup and no Wimbledon to look forward to, we'll have to go back to looking forward to the little things in life. Like the weekend. So here we go: HOORAH! It's almost the weekend. Time to celebrate with the most celebratory of treats: cake. And not just any cake, a Battenberg Cake from The Free From Bakehouse! Old school but definitely still in fashion and as this version just so happens to be gluten &dairy free, everyone can get involved! So what are you waiting for? Let the #FridayFeeling happy vibes begin! šŸŽ‰ šŸŽŠ šŸŽ‰ Too much...? Never! http://boroughmarket.org.uk/articles/batt enberg

Panisse with aubergine & pine nut caviar. You need to try these summery savoury pancakes popular in the south of France and Italy from Italian chef Ursula Ferrigno http://bit.ly/2LquAQ4

Crushed new potatoes with bacon & hot mustard sauce by food writer and cook Angela Clutton. Delicious served with griddled asparagus spears and leftovers can be refried bubble-and-squeak-style for a hearty brunch with a fried egg on top http://bit.ly/2uvEKYV

Lived in London forever but never been! Loved it! Food amazing and so much choice! Not cheap though!

User

It was an awesome experience from us to experience this first hand. Heard it from our friends in India, came to London for a day and made sure we were there for lunch. The variety of cuisines is a food lover's dream. Not to mention the whole sale market - even it has been modernized but the old world charm just mesmerizes. Do read our experience documented here: honumanshongothon(dot)com/2017/10/29/lond on-the-gastronomic-journey/

I went there and my eyes feasted in so many dishes and an amazing atmosphere. I canā€™t wait for real summer.

User

I sincerely recommend everyone coming to London to fit a visit to Borough Market in your schedule. There is plenty of food to try and great products to buy such as cheese, tea. In our last visit we tried so much and most of it was delicious such as the cheese sandwiches from Kappacasein, olive breadsticks and doughnuts from bread ahead and malaysian chicken curry. We also bought parmesan cheese of high quality and some greek honey. Iā€™m pretty sure you would enjoy your time there as a foodie.

User
