A busy final week at Bunnies. Our theme for the week was 'Under the Sea' following on from the children learning more about the seaside the week before. During the week the children had an opportunity to use play-dough with the under the sea mats to make sea creatures along with using beads, shells etc, colour in some under the sea pictures, join in an under the sea number hunt around the garden, make a paper plate 'fish bowl' and a rainbow fish, before listening to the story... of the 'Rainbow Fish' which was shared with the children at story time. The children have also been interested in all things 'Superhero's', therefore to support their interests the children enjoyed dressing up as their favourite superhero character throughout the week, along with playing with the small world superhero's and marvel figures. Other activities and play opportunities the children enjoyed during the week included playing with the giant magnetics, using the peg boards and numbers (supporting matching quantity to numeral, part of the children's mathematical development) although the children also wanted to use the pegs to make towers, which promoted lots of mathematical language including tall, taller, higher etc. Outside the children played with the small world trains, pasta and lentils (supporting fine motor control and co-ordination using the tongs) although, the children absolutely loved dipping their feet in the paddling pool to cool off! On Thursday afternoon the children helped to make fruit smoothies which they tried for snack and this activity provided an opportunity to talk about healthy eating. Finally, on Friday it was our leavers party and graduation. Our children moving up to school enjoyed lots of party games before receiving their certificate and gift from the Graduation Bear. A fantastic finish to another wonderful year with the children. We wish you all a very happy summer and pre-school will re-open on Tuesday 3rd September.

We continued with our holiday theme this week, exploring the seaside. The children enjoyed lots of play opportunities and activities around this including, dressing up in costumes and pretending to go on holiday (in the seaside/ holiday role-play), playing with the Peppa Pig small world, playing with a 'seaside theme' play-dough using open ended materials such as beads and shells as well as making a paper plate shell using lentils, rice and sand, while exploring different typ...es of real shells. Other play opportunities the children enjoyed this week included, playing with the dolls and prams outside, playing with the cars and garage and using the guttering and stands to roll the cars down to see how far they would travel, playing with the number ducks and nets in the water along with joining in a Butterfly themed number hunt around the garden (following on from releasing our real butterflies into the garden last week). The practitioners' had also created a stage for the children in our music area for them to use with their instruments and to put on a show!. As a number of our children had recently been to the cinema to watch Toy Story 4, to support their interests they had the opportunity this week to make the character 'Forkey' from the film which they absolutely loved! Back outside as the weather warmed up, the children took of their shoes and socks and loved burying each other's feet in the sand! Next week for our final week before we break up for the summer holidays, we will be talking about and exploring different sea-life and once again the practitioners have been busy planning some lovely activities around this.

On Friday afternoon it was our special Rhyme Challenge event. We invited our parents, carer's, grandparents and other family members to join the children in lots of fun activities based around the rhymes the children had been learning before singing these to their families at the end of the session. A lovely way to end the week.

The children have once again enjoyed lots of fun activities and play opportunities this week planned around their interests and our current theme 'Holidays/Travel', including, playing with the small world pets, airport and little people, playing with the knights in the play-dough, the pirates in the sand and hairdressers in our extended role-play area. Outside, the children once again enjoyed the camping role play which was further extended with a den and tents. The children... also enjoyed playing with the small world garage and cars, making a very long bridge using the guttering and stands for the cars to travel along. Using a variety of games equipment and resources the children created obstacles courses and planned different races with their friends including the bucket and bean bag race which they enjoyed during sports day the previous week. On Monday the children returned to pre-school finding the chrysalis had turned into butterflies. The children then all watched as we realised them into the garden. This was a wonderful first hand experience for the children insupporting their Understanding the World development. Other activities the children enjoyed this week included making their very own pirate treasure maps which they used in the garden in pretending to find treasure, joining in a seaside themed number hunt around the garden (continuing to support the children's number recognition, counting and sequencing skills), making pretend ice-creams while talking about their favourite flavours and visiting an ice-cream parlour and making ice-lollies which the children then enjoyed for afternoon snack. Next week our holiday theme continues as we further explore 'The Seaside'.

These are June's lovely Imagination Library books the children will have received through the post and some great ideas for the story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. The children at Bunnies this week have seen first hand the chrysalis change into butterflies and today they have been released into the garden. Pictures to follow of this wonderful experience for the children. We also shared the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar with them.

This week we have started to talk to the children about 'Travel and Holidays'. The practitioners once again had been busy planning a number of activities and play opportunities to support the children's learning, including, playing 'camping' and pretending to cook food on a camping stove, making a passport (to go on holiday to another country as some of our children have recently been away on holiday) along with making a picture postcard of places the children have been to or... would like to go to. The practitioners also supported the children to use different themed transport stencils to draw around while sharing their experiences of travelling on different vehicles including cars, aeroplanes, taxis, buses and boats. Some of the children remembered their bus ride last week to Sundown Adventure Land, while another child talked about going in a taxi to his hotel in Disneyland. Another child talked about going on a big boat to the pub on his holiday! This activity certainly promoted lots of talk supporting both the children's communication and language development along with their understanding the world development, in remembering significant events in their own experiences. Outside the children also joined in an ice-cream themed number hunt around the garden (supporting their mathematical development). Back in our home corner, the practitioners had set-up some school resources such as uniform, PE kits, book bags from our main feeder schools and trays with cutlery and pretend food, along with photographs and menus for the children to role-play being at 'Big School' (this play opportunity was planned to support our children's transition to school). The highlight of the week though had to be our Sport's Day on Thursday afternoon and the weather could not have been better!. The children did so well in all their different races and the event was very well attended by our children's families. A massive thank you to all our parents/ carer's, grandparents, aunts, uncles and other family members for coming and supporting the children. A fantastic afternoon was had by all! Next Friday 5th July it is our Rhyme Challenge 2019 event. The children have been busy learning 4 new rhymes along with a Russian song and we invite our children's grandparents, parents and carer's to join us at 2.10 p.m for lots of activities around these different rhymes before the children at the end of the session sing them to you.

It has been another busy week at Bunnies! Lots of activities and play opportunities were once again planned around the children's current interests. The children enjoyed role playing 'parties' over in the home corner, pretending to make cakes from play dough, making real cakes to take home (although most children ate theirs on their way out of pre-school!) and joining in a cake themed number hunt around the garden (continuing to support the children's number recognition, coun...ting and sequencing skills). Other play opportunities the children enjoyed this week included, playing with the small world town and fire station, along with role-playing fire fighters outside pretending to put out lots of "fires everywhere". The children were also able to use the mud kitchen to make pies of all kinds. Back inside the children have been continuing to learn some new nursery rhymes for the up-coming 'Rhyme Time Challenge' in a few weeks and this weeks rhyme was 'Zoom, zoom, zoom, were going to the moon' while enjoying making some cardboard tube rockets at our workshop table. Over at our mark-making table the children were able to colour in some familiar songs and rhymes. The children have also been busy this week threading cheerios onto strawberry laces to take home (this activity supported their fine motor control and co-ordination part of their physical development). Throughout the week the children have been practising the different races ready for sport's day on Thursday 27th June in the afternoon, weather permitting. Finally on Friday it was our summer trip to Sundown Adventure Land for our existing children and the weather was glorious. While back at pre-school it was our open day for our new starters this September who came to have a look around and a little play with their parents. Next week, our theme is 'Travel/ Holidays' as a number of our children have recently been on holiday, therefore the practitioners have once again planned some activities to support and encourage the children to talk about their experiences.

The children have once again enjoyed the different activities and play opportunities which had been planned for them by the practitioners, around their current interests. The included, playing in the role play police station/ Jail, playing with the small world town and people, making cards and writing letters and envelopes over on our mark-making table, using small coloured dinosaurs for sorting and to match numeral to quantity (supporting mathematical development) and using ...different 2D shape cutters with play-dough. On Monday, following on from the Queen's official birthday last weekend, the children made paper plate crowns, coloured in Union Jack flags and London Guards while learning more about the Queen, her family and where she lives. Then in our small adult-led circle time sessions, the practitioners used more props, photographs and stories such as 'Peppa Meets the Queen', 'The Queen's Knickers', 'The Queen's Hat' to further develop the children's awareness of the Queen and also London (our capital city). The children also had a go at a 'crown symmetry' activity to support their mathematical development. Throughout the week the children were very busy making a special card and gift for Father's Day and again this was further explored in our small circle time sessions. Other play opportunities the children enjoyed this week including playing outside pretending to go to Macdonalds, jumping in muddy puddles in the rain (just like Peppa Pig) along with making and exploring gloop, its texture/ feel. Next week a number of play opportunities have once again been planned around the children talking about 'Birthdays' and then on Friday it is our summer trip to Sundown Adventure Land.

It's been a very busy first week back at pre-school following the half term break. The week began with a visit from the photographer to take the children's group photographs. The children were all very interested watching the photographer set up his equipment and then watch as their friends had their pictures taken. We continued to follow the children's interests in 'animals' of all kinds this week and as such the practitioners set up a number of activities and play opportun...ities for them including, playing 'Vets' in the home corner, playing with African animals in the play-dough, experimenting making patterns and marks, playing with the African animals in the sand both inside and outside, joining in an animal themed number hunt around the garden (supporting counting, number recognition and sequencing) and making a cardboard tube bird over on our workshop table. Other activities the children joined in with this week included, learning how to make jelly and exploring how the jelly cubes (solid) turns into a liquid and then back to a solid again when cooled in the fridge. The children also learnt about the festival Eid, as one of our children came to pre-school with mehndi patterns on her hands. Back outside, the children practised their role poly's and made their own obstacle course which they took turns to have a go at. Finally on Friday it was "Pyjamarama', and our children came to pre-school dressed in their PJ's and made a donation to the Book Trust, before our parents/ carer's cam back in the afternoon to join us for our 'Max The Brave' Book Trust Event. Thank you to all our parents for their generous donations which we will send to the Book Trust who are raising money to give each child a bedtime story.
