A wednesbury jeweller is beating the credit crunch by cashing in on the high price of gold.
And he is now advising people that there is no better time to sell as the value of the precious metal has shot up thanks to the weak US dollar.
Aaron Sheldon, from Bojangles, in Market Place, has been in the trade for three years and spotted the potential as the American currency started to decline.
“I pretty much started this gold boom off”, said the 25-year old who is originally from Castle Bromwich, but now lives in the Black Country town.
“Last year at Christmas I was placing full page adverts to buy Gold not to sell it which is very unusual at Christmas. ” Mr Sheldon, who studied finance at Sheffield Hallam University, predicted the boom after keeping a close eye on the financial markets.
“I study the markets and always check what the analysts are saying. I follow the American market more than anything and when the Dollar started falling I thought the price would go up because whenever the Dollar falls people start investing in Gold.
“If the Dollar stays weak Gold is going to rise and all the investors start buying in Gold so I started mass marketing in Gold. ”
Business is so good he has regular clients that come from as far afield as Falkirk to take advantage of his fair market price. Today he was buying Gold for £5. 30 per gram or £164. 80 per ounce, however other buyers in the region are offering significantly less for the same weight. “The difference is they only want to make money out of the credit crunch, ” added Mr Sheldon, a former pupil at Bishop Vesey's Grammar School, in Sutton Coldfield.
“I want to buy and sell Gold and be a bullion dealer. A lot of shops in the area sell me their scrap as I offer such a good price. ”
After buying Gold, Mr Sheldon ?sells it to the stock markets? who refine it and the Gold is then sold to investors.
Although there has been no better time to sell Gold, Aaron is now warning people to be on their guard or risk being ripped off.
“Unless they tell their jeweller what different carats they have got they will only get a price for nine carat Gold, ” he said. “There's a lot of robbery going on because Gold is money. ”
