Braintree Golf Club Description
Our Par 70 parkland course features tight tree lined fairways, water hazards and fast true greens, and is widely considered to be one of the finest in the county by amateurs and professionals alike, and currently enjoys 9th place in the top 100 golf courses in Essex.
Originally established in 1891 we are proud to be one of the oldest clubs in Essex, but also one of the most modern.
The course is playable throughout the year, with full tees and greens in operation at all times. Indeed for the winter 2013 /14 we closed the course on just three days, and last winter 2014 /15 we lost just a single day!
As a private members club we are proud of our heritage, whilst looking equally to the future to provide an excellent golf course and facilities to our members. But at the same time we recognise the value of visiting players and societies alike, and whilst much of the time members have full access to the course, visitors and societies are made very welcome on weekdays throughout the year.
Aside from society bookings and occasional competition mornings and shotgun starts we do not operate any sort of tee booking system, but visitors are strongly recommended to contact the club in advance to avoid disappointment.
Our excellent practice facilities include a 500 yard long game practice area, 200 yard practice fairway, short game area with covered bays, chipping green and 18 hole putting green, and just recently our brand new purpose built practice nets.
Richard Wheeler is our resident PGA professional who has a long standing association with the club over some 25 years. Richard also runs the highly successful Richard Wheeler Golfing Academy.
Away from the course we have a beautiful modern clubhouse, with excellent facilities including the main restaurant, two bars, a function room and panoramic views over the golf course from the patio.

It was our Ladies Championship on Tuesday, with a large field. The weather was good to the ladies in the morning but the heavens opened in the afternoon.. But that didn’t stop the player. The ladies all had a great day but a long one.
The Results: Gwen Bird Ladies Championship: Winner, Julie Race with a total gross score of 180 over 36 holes. Runner up: Mary Goodwin with a total gross score of 181 over 36 holes on count back to Judy Pryke.
Sheppard Salver: Winner, Dian...a Reeve with 52 points over 27 holes, runner up, Mavis Ackerman with 51 points over 27 holes.
Tyrell Trophy: Winner: Susan Twyford with 34 points over 18 holes, runner up, Bridget Couch with 33 points over 18 holes.

LADIES SENIORS COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS: This was held at Stoke By Nayland Golf Club last Friday through to Sunday, and yes, our one and only, Julie Race, who was defending her title, won all her matches through to the final. Julie played against Amanda Colgate, who plays at Rochford Hundred, and what a great final it was. Julie took Amanda to the 17th, what an achievement! She played so well but on the day it wasn’t to be. We were so pleased to be part of the day, she did us proud. Well done Julie.
