Braithwaite Fold Camping and Caravanning Club Site

Braithwaite Fold Camping And Caravanning Club Site Description

Pitch on the shores of Lake Windermere and explore the southern Lakes from this site.

Braithwaite Fold campsite sits on the eastern shore of Lake Windermere in the heart of the beautiful Lake District and is a stone’s throw from the linked towns of Bowness and Windermere.

Our compact site has 66 level hardstanding with electric hook up pitches – and is well laid out. There are modern facilities including an undercover washing up area, laundry and disabled facilities. 3 grass pitches for tents only.

Pitch here and you won’t be short of things to do. For starters you can enjoy the many attractions of the lake right from the campsite. Enjoy a steam cruise or have a go at dinghy sailing, power boating or windsurfing. Meet Peter Rabbit and friends at the World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness on Windermere.

Catch the chain ferry to the western shore for the National Trust’s Claife Heights, ideal for walking and cycling, the pretty village of Hawkshead - home to Hill Top where Beatrix Potter once lived - and Grizedale Forest Park with its Go Ape high wire adventure area.

Fell Foot Park at the lake’s southern tip is perfect for picnics and paddling. Near here you’ll also find the Lakeside and Haverthwaite steam railway and the Lakes Aquarium.

We're sorry but this site can only accommodate one car per pitch at all times. Second vehicles will need to park in the pay and display next to the site.

What a great site right on the outskirts of Bowness-on-windermere, staff were very friendly and made a good job clearing a roadway through the snow would return again however the minimum night rule makes that only for longer vacations which is a shame.

Very tidy site with good humoured, friendly staff. Great location with a bus from the car park next to the site for Windemere, Ambleside and Grasmere.

20 minute lakeside walk to Bowness.

The staff here have gone over and above in their effort to find some space for us and our van. We hadn't booked so we were happy just to accept anything. We agreed to one night on the car park, two nights on a pitch and one more ??

By the time we arrived they had found us 4 nights on one pitch. I know this took a great deal of effort and we really did appreciate it. We were very tired and just needed to "be". We've done just that and are now ready for the journey home.

Nice clean site, very helpful staff, close to the town and facilities. Lots of dog friendly pubs in the town. A suggested upgrade would slightly wider roads around the site, to allow easier manoeuvring, also pitches are a bit tight for awnings, overall an excellent experience

Me and my children had a lovely weeks stay at this fantastic site. large pitches and good facilities. The wardens are very friendly and helpful. This site is all about the location, lovely walk from site around lake and into bowness. One of my favourite sites, will be back soon

User

I was only a visitor who came to see friends staying on the site. Made very welcome. Shown where to park. Friendly Reception. Lovely organised and very clean site. Would recommend it with the highest praise. My friends and their family have both stayed on separate occasions and would def come back.

5 STAR PLUS.

Great all rounder. Close to everything. Great for walkers. Boat to ambleside close by.

User

Fantastic site that is well looked after by the excellent staff.

The location couldn't be better as it is only a10 minute walk into the centre of Bowness that caters for all needs.

User

Been here a few times now staff always pleased to see you and very helpful! Lovely site close to the centre of Bowness, well laid out clean and inviting shower/toilet block

Although a bit more pricey than ither sites in the area it is the ultimate spot to stay for bowness and the lake - not having to move the motorhome and next to a bus stop for the rest of the lakes (and the saving in parking charges justifies the extra campsite fee). The wardens can't do enough to help and the facilities are spotless and the site beautifully maintained. We come back as often as we can.

User

Absolutely great staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful. Showers and toilet facilities are are very clean and highly hygienic. And an especially big thank you to Gillian a lovely welcome received will be back again.

User

Spent a lovely weekend on this site, it’s clean and tidy.

The staff are lovely and very friendly.

It was just st a pity we had the most miserable neighbors I’ve ever had the misfortune to meet.

Still it takes all sorts 😀

Nice site BUT think they prefer expensive motor homes and caravans with older occupants .....not young people in a 21 year old Vdub . We were packing up to leave only to be told washing lines on pitches weren't allowed....He could see we were packing up but still had to mention it. He may be better spending his time to tell the caravan gang not to dispose of their toilet waste in the drinking water gully !!! Would have hoped to stay again but after that maybe not...but that's probably want they wanted...

User

Nice clean site ideal for close walk to town n lakes. Town very dog friendly even lake cruises.

Only problem was hard ground concrete under gravel hard to get awning up, borrowed their drill.

User

Just got back from a week staying on this site, was close to everything we needed, very clean, had everything we needed and have already booked to go back next year, the only improvement that I can suggest is that the staff provided a bit more info about the area, attractions etc. Would have been handy maybe if they made a little booklet with a map with suggested walks, pubs, restaurants. Apart from that loved every minute!!

The site it's self was lovely and really close to bowness its biggest downfall is the owners Dave and kath they are not at all welcoming and really spoke down to us, so much so that I would of told them to stick there pitch if it wasn't for my 7 year old as he really did not want to go home and this was our last resort for a last min stay somewhere. Also there is nothing but rules rules and more rules, I think the owners need to lighted up a bit ( maybe they need a holiday) would be a perfect for place for quite couples but if not I wouldn't bother as the atmospheres isn't good.

Nice site wardens are nice but ground is absolutely terrible could not get pegs in the ground to put up the awing the assistant warden had to give us a loan off a hammer drill so we could pre drill holes to get the pegs in I found the hole experience quite stressful

Nice site - unfortunately do not go if your dog has a voice. We were there with a 5 month old puppy, who had unfortunately lost its adoptive mum some 5 days prior. We had only been on the site 17hrs when we were asked to keep our dog quiet or further action would be taken. The Warden did not even stay long enough for us to explain. Yes she did bark as people passed but most dogs protect their property but this was never after 6pm or before 9am. We went out during the day. Usually 10 till 4. We explained to the people around us and they were perfectly sympathetic with us and said it did not matter to them. After 3 days we were approach again and felt we had option but to leave. The warden did say to us 'why not try our Windermere site, its bigger'. Surely if she is too loud for one site why is she ok for another. Could it be due to a Warden saying on our arrival. 'I don't like dogs, since I was bitten as a child'. Yes we did come home and will only get a refund if our pitch is sold.
