Brancepeth Castle is one of those places that does not disappoint: set in pretty meadows, most visitors' first comment is “Oooohh, its a real castle! ”

Most of the time, Brancepeth Castle is a peaceful home for a couple of dozen people and a few artisan workshops, but every now and again it bursts into life as the venue for a personal or public event.

Steeped in history stretching back to the Saxons, elegantly re-fitted in the Regency period, stripped by the DLI (Durham Light Infantry) in the 20th Century, it is a fascinating building. The aspiration of the last thirty years has been to keep it viable in private ownership. We receive no grants or public funding every penny raised through events and lettings is used to conserve and maintain the fabric.

The building is too beautiful to keep just to ourselves, we want to share the lovely setting and the rooms that were built especially for entertaining but we aim to do that with a light touch. We want to be business-like but it does not suit us to be too commercial so, instead of a team of staff, you deal directly with one of the family.
