Our new Severn Studio exhibition 'Roots' opens this Saturday, showcasing pieces from local furniture makers including MJ Cabinetmakers, The Rusland Movement, Lakeland Bespoke, Windermere Fine Furniture, Waters & Acland and Peter Hall & Son.
The exhibition includes a variety of handmade one of a kind pieces ranging from tables & chairs to shelves and mirrors.
John Ruskin strongly believed that in doing fine labour, we were connected with nature and art. Alongside the major rol...e he played in the Arts and Crafts movement, Ruskin both directly and indirectly supported the formation of the Langdale Linen Industry, The Keswick school of Industrial Arts and the Coniston School of carving.
In the 21st Century, Cumbria has an incredible amount of furniture-making talent, creating beautiful, elegant and exciting furniture, and training the next generation to keep those skills alive.
‘Roots’ opens on Saturday 18th and runs until the 16th February.

Last chance to see... Above and Below by Phil Entwistle
Paintings, Drawings and 3-D Models 'Above and Below' features Phil's dramatic oil paintings of the slate quarries that Coniston is famed for, alongside an intriguing series of topographical drawings. Inspired by Ruskin's belief that art should help us to see more clearly, the exhibition questions our perceptions of the landscape, and reflects on our relationship with it.
... On show until the 12th January.
