absolutely fantastic, beautiful place in a lovely setting with great views, food was thoroughly enjoyable from the first bite to the last along with great service, we will always return each time we holiday down the Ilfracombe area from now on... 10/10 👌🏻👌🏻
Wanted to go there because the building and setting is so beautiful and the food and service matched it. The steak was melt in the mouth delicious, the starter was amazing and not too filling and the small pudding and coffee offer was great value....would recommend a visit.
New favourite home from home, wish we’d discovered you sooner. We love close but had never been before recently.
High standard of food, service and a top location with a spectacular view! Best pub around for miles for reasonable prices AND delicious meals served with care and attention. Comes to life on a sunny day like today. Love that you can sit all around the garden including the grass. And wonderful walks to explore on the waterside path.
Easy and efficient booking service online, too!
Had a wonderful Sunday lunch with our girls over the weekend. The Sunday roast was very tasty, good value for money and just enough not to be over faced with. Especially happy that we hadn't booked and just walked in off the tarka from our dog walk. The manager kindly sourced a bowl of water for the dog and we felt warmly welcomed. We have not been in for sometime having had a disappointing meal from the previous chef, the new chef has improved the standards and we will happily return.
Had a great meal, off the lunch time special menu, 2courses for 12 quid, portion sizes were great, the staff are all very helpful and advise on food and drinks. Would definitely recommend and will be visiting again.
Great place, slightly off the beaten track with wonderful food at mid to upper end prices. Drinks are slightly pricey but nothing outrageous! Had a lovely meal with great service by the front of house staff. Food took a while to come out which makes me think they are slightly understaffed in the kitchen but we were in no rush. 3 courses for my wife and I with drinks cost £70 to give you an idea
Delicious food, we hadn't booked and they kindly found us a table on a busy Sunday. Our server was super attentive and knowledgeable about allergens and quickly sorted a safe meal for our son. Not too much of a sting on price either. The food was fresh and very tasty. All in all a lovely experience for us all.
Beautiful place to eat and the food matches! Lovely plated roast dinner and lots of extras to choose from! We were sat in a bit of a peculiar place - right beside the fire place and as my chair was half on the tiles that protect the carpet, it wabbled, and then a table of 4 with two young children were placed right next to us so it was very clostrophobic. Perhaps just do away with this table? Or move it? I'm sure if we had asked to move then we would've, but we didn't as we didn't want to seem rude to the other table as the children weren't an issue. Still, excellent place to eat, lovely staff and beautiful venue!
Had an email offer from Braunton inn offering 20% off food. Thought we may as well give it a go. Quiet cold Tuesday night, but had a really nice evening meal, perfect spot by the roaring open fire. Friendly helpful staff, good service and very nice food, even had desserts. Will be back. Good choice of food, and drinks.
Had a lovely meal with my other half tonight we had a sharing platter , chips & calamari, it didn’t disappoint the bar staff/waitress were very friendly ~ we will defiantly be returning when in Barnstable next. Thank-you x
We called in for lunch a family of 6 I ordered a Sweet and a coffee that was on offer I was not hungry the rest of the family had main meals . It was agreed that I would receive mine with the rest, they forgot my sweet and it arrived when the rest of the family had finished it caused them to wait until I had done , the food was excellent but didn't deserve a a good report .
Only popped in for a drink and a portion of chips. Not a very good portion of chips for the money.
Please get a children’s play area as had a 3 year old but nothing for them to do. Would surely encourage adults to stay longer if kids are kept amused
Food was tasty but the portions of our meals were very small. £10.95 for a curry and it was the size of a starter. Fish came with cold mushy peas and without the tartar sauce and when we asked for it got blunt response.
Service was friendly in the bar, can’t fault them. But overall disappointing.
This could be such a lovely place but you are getting the basics wrong. Needs to be better service, better food and you should be catering for the customer more not texting on your phones. Asking how was your food goes a long way, clearing away empty glasses must be done and clean the tables before the customer arrives.
Please step up the game as this is a very nice place and could be great.
Also if you have a FACEBOOK page it must be managed you have put a very few post on here tempting people in and it would be nice to get replies to customers comments. If you are not going to use it delete it.
Many thanks I hope this helps.
First the positives - the location is lovely, the interior is very smart and the beer was good (Tribute and Doombar). The staff were also very polite, accomodating and provided a good efficient service. The negatives - the food was the big disappointment....we ordered hunters chicken, beef and mushroom pie and sticky duck salad - my parents had the chicken and they said it was very tasty but neither of them felt the amount of food was enough - they thought a dozen chips was perhaps a little on the miserly side!! It also only looked as if they had half a breast of chicken each. I ordered the sticky duck salad expecting a nice Chinese style salad....not a nice looking dish at all with a pretty much a green salad of little gem lettuce, 3 ribbons on carrot and the same of cucumber with sliced and fried duck scattered over it with a dressing of sweet chilli sauce and this was the most expensive meal of the 4!! I would have expected bean sprouts, peppers and spring onions to at least add some kind of visual appeal as well as some substance to it. My wife had the pie although as they served the others they admitted that they dropped hers and had to do another one and this arrived after our parents had finished their meals.....to be fair when she got her meal it was the best of the lot and had a good selection of veg with it and the pie was of a decent size and tasty. I also saw a lady on another table ask for her food to be heated up as it was lukewarm. With plenty of other fabulous places to visit in nearby Braunton I won't be going back anytime soon!
Took 20 minutes to order 2 pints. In that time the lone barman served 3 customers. All with coffees - and the entire experience was in slow motion. They really need more staff and the manager (who I believe was on leave that day) should be replaced with one that ensures his pub is staffed to the right levels with the right skilled people. I witnessed 7 people leave due to the wait and heard one customer saying she was still waiting for food after ordering over an hour earlier. Simply inexcusable.
This is the second time we have eaten here and both times been majorly disappointed. We are down twice a year usually visiting croyde and staying in Barnstaple so this venue is perfect for our meal. The building is wonderful but sadly the food and service do not match this. We were welcomed by our waitress who was charming but firstly gave us the bad news that half of the menu was, well, not on the menu as they'd run out of food! We thought we'll ok, there will be something we can have and ordered the starter, rustic breads can't go wrong with that. My wife ordered the hunters chicken, it was as she put it 'like eating a plate of cardboard' - average was a compliment. I ordered the chicken roasted with vegetables and gravy. What was presented to me looked like the contents from a cupboard full of bits that were left over. The chicken was sadly not great, the potatoes were lukewarm but the veg consisted of brown looking cabbage that looked well past its sell by date topped off with a massive cold carrot. Inedible. No waitress or staff were nearby to complain to so we eat the bits that were warm and left the cold bits. When the waitress collected our plates and asked if our meals were ok we told her, she was very apologetic but it's not her fault so I asked for the manager, equally apologetic but it's too late to rescue a truly appalling experience at this restaurant, laughably self titled 'gastro pub' ! We were offered a discount of a round of drinks (£7), but unfortunately this is not enough to even consider entering this establishment again. A shocking gastronomic experience awaits all who enter this ghastly place.
Popped in for a quick lunch on a beautiful late October sunny day and sat in the garden. Ordered a chicken and bacon ciabatta. Well, there was hardly any chicken. The chicken that was there was very dry. Had about half an inch of thick bacon on each half of the ciabatta. Certainly not worth the money for lunch!! Oh, it also took 45 mins to come out!
Bar service was good but side dish came out as a starter and then two meals came out 20 minutes before the other two Arrived by that time half our table had already finished the meals so we went and spoke to the manager and was told they do not check table numbers. so if you need to split the bill it means eating separately. No waitresses came and checked if our meals or service was okay. It's a shame but we won't be coming back.
