Brendan'S Bass Solutions Description
Do you hate taking your beloved instrument to a bass shop to be repaired and they charge you loads of money to be unfriendly and not do a very good job?
I did, so I started collecting the tools and the knowledge to do it myself.
The things I've done:
- Reset and dowelled the neck after it was broken on a flight to Ireland in 2008.
- Replaced the spike assembly and wire.
- Removed the old cheap fingerboard and replaced it with a fine ebony one. Made a new ebony nut to go with it and cut the bridge down to improve the action.
- During a long-distance flight the soundpost came through the front. Ouch! So I took off the front, fixed it and put the front back on : )
- I also built my own electric stick bass from scratch for my GCSE Technology project - see video.
My bass & I have rocked out Glastonbury and Secret Garden Party this summer and she sounds and plays awesome! She's a lot better than she was before!
I only use the proper animal hide glue, have the specialist clamps to do the job, use expert carpenters and cabinet makers as consultants, am willing to work to your budget and always offer a friendly service.
I offer free home-consultations* (none of us wants to carry our bass about if we can avoid it) and will always be honest if I think something is beyond my capabilities. So you really have nothing to lose by asking. As the hide glue takes a few days to set, in some cases I can even offer a replacement bass while repairs are undertaken.
