My friend and I just had a great meal at the Highwayman, the starter cheese and onion tartlet was yummy, the steak was cooked to perfection and I loved the soft chocolate brownie, didn't have to wit long for food and it was piping hot definitely a 5 * from us.

When we walked in we we're greeted by a a nice man who was very chatty and happy to tell us that they have improved since the last visit a few yrs ago. One we ordered our dinners ( Curry for my husband and I from the counter, chicken nuggarts for the two children) the children went off to play in the play area. 50mins later still hadn't had the children's dinner. We had to ask as the children were hugry, so a girl to tell us that the machine in the kitchen was broken and they had forgotten about us. Another 15 mins later the children finally get there dinner. The chicken nuggarts were hard as rock, beans were cold so much children ate the chips. Ours currys were ok. No names of currys on each pot so u had to keep asking which was what Curry, no Tikka left but the chief said he could put some on but it will take 20 mins. I just couldn't be bothered by this time so just had some of what was there. I defo won't be going back in a hurry, the staff that we spoke to were friendly and helpful enough but waiting for over an hour for chicken nuggarts is rediculous.

Seated quickly ordered food and drinks . Drinks came straight away .Didn't have the sauce I ordered for my meal so I ordered a different one which never turned up !! And my burger was burnt ! When we ordered deserts mine came out and they told my partner they had ran out of what she ordered so my partners and my daughter's deserts came out 15 mins later over all not a great experience.

Not the best Brewers Fayre I have eaten in. They are supposed to be of the same standard wherever you go but this is not true. We booked a table for 5 people but they couldn't get into the computer to check so eventually just showed us to a table. It wasnt busy but I am not surprised. Dirty plates cups and glasses left on tables no one bothered to clear up. I had to send back my rib eye steak because it was full of fat and the meat was totally inedible. They replaced it but by the time it came the other 4 people in our party had finished eating. My husband should have returned his rib eye as it wasn't much better than mine. So much fat I would suggest the weight of the meat was nearer 8oz rather than the 14oz we paid for. No one checked on us, no one asked if we wanted desserts. We ordered desserts at the bar and had to ask for someone to come and clear our table before we could actually eat them. No one came to ask if we wanted more drinks. In fact the whole time we were there we never saw any staff in our area other than to bring our main meals. I regularly use Brewers Fayre and am a Bonus Club member but this was certainly the worse I have eaten in for a long time.

Called in on the way back from a trip to Woburn Safari Park as we had Had a long day and feeling a little peckish. One of our party had eaten there before and recommended it. Everyone's meal was of good quality , hot and looked like value for money with the exception of my own I had ordered the large mixed grill at a cost close to £13 of I remember correctly ? I was disappointed with the size of the gammon, the steak & the chicken breast . It looked as though they had run out and cut a piece of someone else's meal . Value for money ? No unfortunately not but cooked well and hot.

Went there last night with two 7 year olds so they could go in the soft play. Ordered our food, wasn’t asked about drinks or anything and found a seat in the kids bit. Had to go and order drinks when I realised I’d forgotten them. No drama.

Sat there for 50 mins before I queried where my meals were. They hadn’t even been taken to the kitchen 😡. No apology, nothing. Turn up about 15 mins later. I ordered the salmon and prawn rigatoni. If you’re even the slightest bit hungry don’t order it. Came with 3 very tiny cubes of salmon and 1 prawn. Called the manager over who says that’s how it comes. I sent it back and got a refund. Really not happy and the manager didn’t seem to be bothered.

Won’t be returning.

We were seated as a table of 7 relatively quickly without booking and the allergens menu was quickly supplied and up to date however unfortunately service at the bar to order both food and drinks was slow, two of the options we chose were sold out so we had to change our choice and when the food arrived- one of our children’s meals contained the most unappetising, hard, over cooked meatballs I’ve ever seen. The restaurant informed us that is how the product is and so we settled for plain pasta. The chairs and floors were filthy with discarded cracker prizes still under chairs 4 days after Christmas Day

****The most worrying shortcoming was when my meal arrived and someone has dripped melted cheese all over it. I have a dairy allergy and although I luckily don’t experience anaphylaxis- someone else with a more severe allergy may not have been so lucky.****

Kitchen staff training is clearly needed. I complained to two waiting staff and although both apologised no one offered to recook my meal (to be fair one was clearing our plates so was a bit late). Very disappointing. Soft play area was quite big and appeared well maintained.

We decided we'd try it again on a Saturday afternoon, we hadn't booked but wasn't a problem as they were not busy at the time.

Seated straight away and seemed polite.

We ordered food and waited and the starters arrived and apart from the Garlic bread which was burnt it all looked ok.

Main course arrived and my girlfriend ordered a Festive Burger ( nothing special ) and I ordered a curry that wasn't as hot as it should be.

The kids had ordered a dessert but 35 minutes after the Main course had finished I had to go to the bar to check on them and then they finally brought them out even though there were enough staff seeing our dirty plates on our table and just walking past

We were there 2 hours just having lunch so not exactly a quick visit

I don't think we will be going back in a hurry

Three of us went today thinking 2.15pm on a Monday afternoon would be a good time. There was hardly any staff, an A4 sheet of items not available from the menu. I'm guessing cheese was missed off the list, wasn't on my garlic bread. We waited ages between starter and main. Two of us had steak (lukewarm), peas (not much better) and chips (most edible thing). Don't think we'll be going back.

Not very happy at all when usually impressed-

7 adults and 2 children came for breakfast this morning (brewers fayre in Eaton Socon) to be told we had to leave because of a power cut. Understandably not the staffs fault but we hadn’t finished our meals or drinks which we’d paid for and no offer of a refund was given or apology. A children’s party also had to leave. Before this point there were no clean mugs, no hot milk in the machine for a coffee, and no bacon/continental selection left (we arrived 45 mins before they would stop serving so plenty of time for us to enjoy food if it had been available and if we weren’t cut short and kicked out- even though the power came back on). Paid money for a half eaten breakfast and two disappointed children shame because the little food we did get time to eat was lovely!

It's gone downhill lately I was there with my family for my birthday there was 11 of us we all went to order to be told there was no chicken at all so we had to change all of our orders .when the food came out the mixed grills had chicken on them ???! Which baffled us as supposed to be no chicken . Then one of our meals didn't arrive after 3 times of asking and talking to the manager the missing meal arrived after all of us had finished .I am really disappointed as we used to go there a lot for Sunday carvery and any family birthdays but we are seriously considering not going anymore wich is sad as the children love the kids play area and was one of the main reasons we go there

User

All the staff are friendly. Very reasonable price wise. But I was really shocked when viewing the buffet that there was a big bowl of what seemed to be cooked chicken breasts in water?! So I ordered from the menu instead, my relatives had beef and sausages, my daughter and I had chicken. Big mistake. We spent all night being sick, everyone else was okay. I’m not one to complain normally but this is quite serious if the chicken may have been fed to someone elderly or already unwell. My daughter has had to miss 2 days of school and I’ve missed work.

User

we initially went to the Brewers Fayre at Brampton hut but where told that there was no chefs counter due to technical difficulties, so we ended up at the Highway man,I was very disappointing as there where things missing from the menu on the web site, I do appreciate that things are subject to availability.

Most of the food on offer was dry as it had been under the heat lamps too long the chicken would have done a first class job on the bottom of a shoe as a replacement sole.

I would say that to date this has been the worst experience of a Brewers Fayre.

Went to eat with my friend my daughter and I have coeliac disease and choose food from the gluten free menu, I had a burger without a roll and my daughter had a hot dog without a roll, about 5 minutes after placing are order the server came up to me saying we have gluten free rolls and would we like them, I said yes. After the soft play my husband and I went to Bedford, where my daughter started being sick and then I wasn’t far behind! Needless to say the car journey home was horrific. If they offer you bread and you need gluten free refuse it!

We have visited the Highwayman since it opened and have given it lots of chances hoping it is going to improve but sadly not after going last night! This visit was because we had already complained to Customer Services at Whitbread and got a voucher to use! Last night we ordered one buffet and one main meal! After waiting 30 mins we noticed other customers being served that came in after us! My husband then spoke to the Manager who said the order had not been processed! Unbelievable! I then had to wait another 20 mins! I didn’t even get a apology!

User

Very disappointed with the service, we had to wait over a hour for the food which then the staff served the kids dessert before the starters or any meals came out so very unorangised. The kids meals had to be sent back as the burgers were rock hard and black, this was the same with the adult burgers, it was like rubber. To make the experience even worse the kids dougnuts was also rock hard and inedible, and the trio of puddings for adults was absolutely discusting, the apple crumble had salt in it and the flavour was nothing like a apple crumble, it was so discusting I can even describe what was in it or the flavour. The sponge was microvewaved so much the sugar crystallized and was also inedible and top it off we asked to speak to the manager and the manager didnt even bother to show up after waiting an long period of time so feel this review is needed. Poor quality of food, poor service and complete disregard for your custom. Terribly dissatisfied and shame I had to pay for the meals upfront or I wouldnt of paid. Definitely not worth the money.

User

Only gave it a 1* as it wouldn't let me write a review with 0!

Food was terrible ,had 4 meals that had to be sent back and replaced because they was chargrilled .Puddings were all un edible even my sons mini doughnuts were rock solid they could of been grated .glasses smelt of wet dog so our drinks were undrinkable also .

Asked to talk to a manager ,well after a hr of waiting and no explanation of why the manager wasn't even bothering to come and talk to us we decided to leave.

Children's area you have to pay for which is terrible considering how bad the food it.

We will never give them custom again .

A lot of money wasted and a lot of disrespect to add salt to the wound!

Me and my friend went for lunch there yesterday. We ordered a meal each, costing £16 each. My friends meal came out first. After 15 minutes, I asked the lady at the till where my meal was. She went and checked and told me they were just plating it up which means they obviously forgot. When my meal arrived, my chips were cold, the burger and the bacon (which wasn't actually bacon, it was 2 steaks of fat) had obviously been cooked in the same pan as they were both greasy and covered in what looked like black charcoal from the pan. Me and my friend both were disappointed in our meals. We went there last week as well and that was terrible but gave it a second chance but they will not be getting a third chance. Awful food.

User

First problem, children's desert arrived before any other meal and had to be sent back, I ordered Sweet potato and feta lasagna, no sweet potato or feta just spinach and salad, why salad in the middle of winter, children's burgers were burnt and had to be exchanged for chicken burgers. Deserts were a piss take, donuts a child's desert was rock hard, trio of deserts was nothing like the picture and taste like salt was added, this I was told was because of the salted caramel, but its supposed to be an apple crumble I said then I was told that's how they came out. I asked for the manager but he never showed, to me they could not give s rats arse about the service its money and numbers don't go there for quality of food.
