Brick Lock Island Ltd Description

Desiring a change in lifestyle, Mark and Helen Reynolds left London in September 2012 and moved into Brick Lock Cottage on the River Stort Navigation, near Roydon. The only remaining original lock keeper's cottage on the Stort, features a plaque above the front door, with a red hand and the initials GD, dated 1830, in reference to George Duckett the Architect of the Stort Navigation.

As it is no longer their responsibility to look after the lock, they have time to take care of the adjacent 2. 5 acre island. This island forms the base for their business, Brick Lock Island Ltd.

Moorings are sometimes available and work is ongoing to establish the rest of their plans. These include a 1 acre orchard of heritage Essex apple trees, a fruit and vegetable garden and a forest garden.

The moorings are in an idyllic location on a private millstream. Each mooring has its own garden area, most have electric hook ups and there is a water point available on the island. The close proximity of Roydon Marina Village allows for easy refuelling and emptying of waste tanks.
