At Bright Skies we love our children to be playing outside, we believe there is no such thing as inclement weather, only inappropriate clothing. Here is a helpful guide to dressing for the cold weather.

A massive thank you to Bill Cadmore from Bradford Beekeepers Association who came to remove a swarm of Honey Bees from our play area. We love bees at Bright Skies but 5000 of them was a few too many and so sadly we had to find them a new home.

Today is the first day of Lent. At Bright Skies we have decided to give up our time (rather than chocolate) and do different challenges throughout Lent. We are asking for sponsorship to raise money to help Type 1 Diabetic children. Please like and share to help us. You can find more information on diabetes Diabetes UK

Kindness Rocks A few of our children have painted some kindness rocks and hidden them in Nunroyd Park. Let us know if you find one and don’t forget to rehide.

Some of our older children have had a visit from Michelle from Mini First Aid Bradford, West Leeds & Huddersfield who came along with her friend Ted to teach them about basic first aid. They learnt how to treat a cut, a bump, how to put someone in the recovery position and how to prevent themselves from choking. They also learnt and practised how to call for help, dial 999 and what to say. They received a certificate at the end.

Following our little flurry of snow last week we looked at stories with a winter theme. The children took a particular interest in the Gruffalo’s Child. This has led us on to our theme this week. Using the story board and the book we are encouraging the children to retell the story, sequencing the events in the correct order. We will also be looking at what animals you find in the woods. This focus will help to develop the children’s language skills and their understanding of... the world. To further their development we will extend the theme into other areas. In the maths area we will be ordering the characters into size order, measuring them using multi links, then matching the amount of multi links to the corresponding number. In the literacy area we will be drawing the mouse, as this links to the letter of the week; the letter ‘m’. We will also be encouraging them to make marks to represent the letter. We are taking our Gruffalo role play outside, encouraging the children to take on the roles of the characters and use their imagination to create the animals' habitats. This theme is so exciting and doesn’t stop there as we have made brown play dough and provided eyes and sticks so the children are able to access a variety of materials to enable them to create their very own Gruffalo Child. As you can see below Poppy is enjoying taking part in this week's theme.
