TONIGHT (Monday 3rd December) we'll welcome Patterson Dipper to the club! Performing a rich tapestry of tunes & songs from the English tradition, infused with a musicality and thoughtfulness only found in musicians of their calibre, this is sure to be a magical evening. 🎶 John Dipper, brought up in the Wiltshire home of performing and instrument making parents, has been playing fiddle for as long as he can recall. Widely regarded as one of the finest English fiddl...ers he has worked as part of the English Acoustic Collective, Alma, The Emily Askew Band and many others. James Patterson started singing in folk clubs whilst still a student in London in the early 1970s. He worked with the late Ralph Jordan in Silas, Crows and Patterson, Jordan, Dipper and has continued his musical explorations with John since Ralph’s death. James has also recently worked in the revived line up of Crows.

Monday 5th November we'll have the pleasure of hearing the wonderful Carolyn Robson accompanied by the equally wonderful Iris Bishop! 🎶
Carolyn Robson is a legendary traditional folk singer specialising in songs from her native Northumberland and Scotland. She has appeared in several groupings, as part of a trio with Kevin Dempsey and Karen Tweed and also the harmony group Craig Morgan Robson.
She will be accompanied by her orchestra – the great Iris Bishop, whose mastery o...f duet concertina & accordion we had the pleasure of hearing earlier in the year when she accompanied Martyn Wyndham-Read.
Don't worry about missing the fireworks as the pub has thoughtfully installed a new glass ceiling – you'll be able to sit in the warm, among friends, with a pint, listen to some brilliant music AND watch the fireworks! What an evening!!! 🎇🎆🍾🍺🔥

We told you last month that we had a surprise for you! Okay, well "The Organisers" isn't a bandname for obssessively tidy musicians, but actually just the organisers of Brighton Acoustic Club: Rosie Hodgson Music, Rowan Piggott & Tom Evans Music! This month we're going to give back by doing a trio gig in aid of the club... all donations on the night will go into the club kitty so that we can get you more brilliant guest acts and not worry about how much we can pay them... As usual, we'll have lots of room for floorspots so bring an instrument/some vocal cords! 🎶🎻
See you next Monday (1st October) at 8pm! x

On Monday 6th August, we have Mike Reinstein at the club!
Mike's songs take witty and wonderful snapshots of the world's follies and absurdities. He's a fine finger-picking guitarist too with a developed sense of the absurd and a rich way with words. He also has the gift of swinging effortlessly between poignancy, edginess and wry humour.
FREE ENTRY with donation encouraged! 8pm kick-off

TONIGHT 8PM: Martyn Wyndham-Read & Iris Bishop
Martyn Wyndham-Read has been involved with folk music for fifty years. He headed off to Melbourne and became part of the folk song revival there and throughout Australia during the early 1960s. Back to England in 1967 Martyn was asked by Bert Lloyd to be part of the album ‘Leviathan’ on the Topic label with Martin Carthy & Dave Swarbrick. Iris Bishop is one of the UK’s outstanding concertina players and she plays a wide range of music with inspired musicality. Well-known as one of the most sympathetic accompanists in folk, it will be an unrivalled pleasure to hear her accompany Martyn's golden voice!

Loving the first set from @BondOfUnion https://www.facebook.com/BondOfUnion/

TONIGHT! Treat your ears to Bond of Union – a folk trio based in Brighton who sing traditional and contemporary folk songs in unaccompanied three-part harmony. The group was inspired by singing sessions and workshops with folk artists including The Unthanks, Jim Mageean and the Young’Uns. Repertoire includes songs learned from those artists, plus other great English vocal groups such as The Keelers, The Wilsons, Coope Boyes and Simpson and Swan Arcade, alongside some original arrangements.

User

Here's the song we sang last time (we were a bit early!) Merry Whitsun... If this gets you in the mood for harmony singing, get along to our next club date, Monday 4th June, to hear the wonderful Bond of Union!! 🎶
