Come down to the farm this fathers day and watch the sheep been clipped! With lots of sheep to clip this is sure to be a fun and educational day out! Treat dad or grandad to a day at the farm and they will receive a complementary sausage or bacon sandwich! This event is WEATHER PERMITTING AS THE SHEEP CAN NOT BE CLIPPED IF THE WOOL IS WET. However we will confirm the event on Sunday morning. Hope to see lots of your here! 🐑🐑🐑

What an incredible turnout we had yesterday for #openfarmsunday. We would like to thank all our lovely visitors for coming and supporting us we hope you all had as much fun as we did! We would like thank; all our staff at the farm who worked so hard throughout the very busy day! Our farrier Tom Smith and his wife Abbie for coming for the morning and doing foot trimming demonstrations. Deb Green +Stu Green for bring there beautiful heavy horses, who stood perfectly all day ...while they demonstrated some traditional plaiting, the children also loved having a go! Leilah from Dragon Willow who did some willow crafts with the children. Nidderdale YFC Nidderdale Young Farmers Club inspiring future generations of young farmers. Our Neighbours Startover Holsteins who brought along their pedigree Holstein Cow Spectrum Apple. Martin Jackson and his TV famous Cows, Martin also did a live milking demonstration. Ripon Farm Services - Ripon for bringing along a tractor, which all the children loved having a photo in! Josh Gee for bringing his vintage tractor, which was also very popular! Sophie and Allan Dumbreck for serving the hog roast.
We really are grateful for everyone involved, it wouldn't have been possible with out you!

Open Farm Sunday
We are expecting to have a lot of visitors on #openfarmsunday this Sunday, and we are so exited to welcome you all as we have lots going on!
If you are planning on staying with us for lunch we will also be opening an additional 'Grab & Go' cash ONLY till, as well as the hog roast and main cafe!
... The nearest cash points are in Pateley Bridge, Ripon and Harrogate.
As well as all the other exiting things to see and take part in on the farm on Sunday, as well as our indoor and outdoor play areas and sand pit we will also be doing the #BBSRC science on the farm quiz, if you would like to take part!

We are also delighted to welcome Leilah from Dragon Willow on #openfarmsunday ! Dragon Wilow is an environmentally minded green themed business, it aims to encourage everyone to try traditional countryside crafts, enjoy our natural environment and try something new.
Leilahs workshop is at Kirby Wharf, near Tadcaster in North Yorkshire. where she has two willow coppice’s and grow a wide variety of basketry, hurdle and decorative willow. Working with this sustainable and flexib...le crop is exciting and rewarding year on year.

We are also delighted to have the lovely Martin Jackson and his Show winning come TV stars BILBRO dairy Shorthorns the herd was started by Martins Grandfather in 1954 then 10 years later in 1964/65 martins Uncle started the herd prefix. Last year Martin was clipping one of his show cows out this year you will be able to talk to Martin about the importance of keeping this fantastic breed going for future generations. We are super excited to be having our lovely neighbours the Clarke’s (pictured) here is a little about the herd. Brimham Lodge Farm is home to Startover Holsteins. We have been farming in Nidderdale since 1947 since then 3 generations have worked on the 300 acres farm with 210 milking pedigree Holsteins. As part of our #openfarmsunday2019 we have some beautiful heavy horse coming along for you to meet. Many years ago before the introduction of machinery farms relied on these fabulous creatures to do the “heavy” work. The horse can still be seen in action today on the odd farm and in some logging areas where they are able to get deep into the forest and move large trees where machines could not get to without causing too much damage. #openfarm #education #farmucation
