Bristol After Stroke

Bristol After Stroke is an independent local charity helping people rebuild their lives after stroke. Our services offer a unique combination of practical, social, emotional and psychological support to stroke affected people and their carers

The Bristol Area Stroke Foundation (BASF) works across Bristol and South Gloucestershire supporting people affected by stroke. We are a local charity that can help you through some of the difficult times that you may face after a stroke.

Stroke usually occurs suddenly, it has been described like an earthquake in the brain. It is also like an earthquake in the lives of those affected, lives can be turned upside down in a minute.

Our professional staff and volunteers are there to offer guidance, support & counselling to you and your family during rehabilitation and we understand the many problems you may face as a consequence of the stroke.

We will focus on the issues that are important to you helping you to re-build your life after a stroke. We support carers as well as the person who has had the stroke. We take especial interest in emotional wellbeing following a stroke as this can have a significant influence on your recovery and rehabilitation. We think everyone should be offered help to overcome emotional & psychological problems following stroke.

The services we provide are free, although we make a small charge to those attending our groups as a contribution to some of our costs.

Stroke groups provide support, encouragement and understanding to those recovering from a stroke. Current groups include:

Weekly Groups
South Bristol – Bedminster Thursday 1. 30pm – 3. 30pm
North Bristol – Portway Thursdays 1. 30pm – 3. 45pm
South Glos – Yate Mondays 1. 45pm – 3. 45pm
South Glos and Bristol – Fishponds Wednesday 10am – 12pm (Younger people)
