About Bristol Energy Cooperative

Bristol Energy Cooperative is a community owned initiative to build a resilient, local and low carbon energy infrastructure for Bristol. #OwnIt

Bristol Energy Cooperative Description

Bristol Energy Cooperative is a community-owned social enterprise and collaboration to build a local, resilient, low-carbon energy infrastructure for the greater Bristol area. It owns energy infrastructure and supports investment in energy efficiency and low carbon technologies, in homes, businesses and community resources in Bristol and the surrounding region; and produces financial returns for reinvestment on a ‘revolving fund’ model.

The first phase of the project was based on Solar PV installations on community buildings, taking advantage of the Feed in Tariffs as income to pay interest to investors and provide funds for reinvestment. The co-operative is developing its strategy to expand into areas such as wind energy, domestic PV, energy efficiency measures and renewable heat projects.

We rely on Bristol residents and others supportive of our aims buying shares and becoming members, and Bristol Energy Cooperative will be owned by its member-shareholders, and decisions will be made on a one member one vote basis. It will be a power station for Bristol owned by the people of Bristol.
