About British Antarctic Survey

British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is a world-leading centre for polar research and operations. Although the Polar Regions are at the ends of the Earth, what happens there affects us all. Our research uses the Polar Regions to advance our understanding of Earth and our impact on it, and to help us find solutions to global challenges. We have around 500 science and support staff in Cambridge, Antarctica and the Arctic. We run five research stations - Rothera, Bird Island, Halley, King Edward Point - in the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic. We also operate Britain's new polar research ship - RRS Sir David Attenborough. BAS is part of UK Research and Innovation-Natural Environment Research Council.
