Broadway Museum And Art Gallery Description

The Ashmolean is working in partnership with Worcestershire County Council, the Keil family, heritage groups and other local stakeholders, and has transformed an historic house in the Cotswold village of Broadway, Worcestershire, into a new museum: The Broadway Museum and Art Gallery.

The 17th-century Tudor House, has stood empty since 2008 and is one of the most important buildings in Broadway. Originally built as an Inn in 1659 /1660 it has been extended and adapted over the centuries into a school and private residences. It is located on the main road through the village and was Grade II listed in 1959.

This independent museum opened in September 2013 provides a history of Broadway and Coaching Inns and displays objects from the 17th to the 21st centuries over 3 floors, including objects from the founding Tradescant collections of the Ashmolean Museum. The gallery space is dedicated to rotating exhibitions providing local artists and The Ashmolean Oxford with the opportunity for displays, as well as education and outreach programmes.

The project has been made possible by the generosity of Mr John Keil, owner of the property, who has offered Tudor House on a long term lease in order to open it to the public.
