Locally foraged samphire. Like nothing you’ve ever tasted. Divine. Andy B, AKA my local foraging friend, aka the green goodness bringer will be bestowing this upon us tomorrow. Samphire is a good month behind it’s normal season because of the weather we’ve had this year. So better late than never, this wild bounty is fantastic. A genuine treat. Hats off to Andy for wading deep. #samphire #local #foraged

Strawberries are tasting awesome right now. Especially when they're grown in the Cheddar Valley. And Especially when they've come from somebody with 5 generations of growing experience like Josh Warren.
When you spend your life working with farmers and growers, you learn one thing - don't take your food for granted. Planting, growing, picking, packing, transporting anything that ends up on our plates is the result of hard graft, expertise and planning. It's damn hard work!
Tw...o years ago I vowed to buy direct from growers, farmers and producers and not through distributors or markets wherever possible, because it just makes sense. Fresher produce (these strawberries are picked, packed and delivered to us within 5 hours), more money going direct to the producers and a tastier all round experience for us all.
Just over 2 years ago, I sat down with Josh and Graham (his Dad) and we made it happen.
The Warren's have a whopping 12 acres of tunnels to grow a large quantity of strawberries over the season.
The Cheddar Valley is famous for its strawberries - the strawberry belt lies at the foot of the fertile south western slopes of the Mendip Hills from Axbridge to Rodney Stoke.
So, what to look out for!!! ..... not all strawberries are the same. As we travel through the season, different varieties become more prolific and more tasty. The Sonata remains my firm favourite and is aplenty right now, but the Symphony produces a later cropping delicious berry.
So take a closer look at the shape of your berries, where they come from, what variety they are and see what you think!

Even the sandwiches are affordable and filling. Also the products are mostly local. For me, supporting sustainable, quality goods and Brockley, is a bonus.
