We always take great pride in each and every barrel we restore and that's certainly the case with these A.D Jansen barrels we've just finished. It was incredibly satisfying bringing these back to life and a very happy customer collected them this morning.
Purdey and Holland & Holland barrels in the early stages of the browning process. Working solely on pattern extraction.
Recent rib strip/re-lay & re-brown on a lovely old pair of Charles Hellis barrels. Photos show just after the top rib was removed then after day 4 when we are still working on fully extracting the pattern back out. And finally the barrels on completion.
Dents out and lapped internally. Now just to polish out file marks and get it off to the proof house.
Now, there are dents and then 'there are DENTS!!'
Cracking Blanch muzzle loader re browned and ready to go back to customer.
That'll explain why it took a little longer to remove the top rib, years of crud and rust have filled the rib cavity and absorbed all the heat!!! Ribs have obviously been loose for a while on these barrels!!

A few pics from our shoot at the stunning Bilsington Priory Estate.
Yet another pair of barrels in to be re-blacked that turned out to have ‘suspect’ ribs!! Even Theresa is shocked that the sender never picked up on it!!!!
A couple of black and white pics of a stunning pair of W. Cashmore barrels with the most striking of patterns we finished today.
Stunning pair of William Cashmore Damascus barrels that Gareth is currently working on. These are half way through the process where Gareth has fully extracted the pattern back out and now starting to darken to a traditional, strong brown.
Extracting the pattern back of this stunning pair of Damascus barrels. Hard to believe that these barrels were polished silver with no pattern showing only yesterday. Only when the pattern is fully out will we begin the browning process.
All ready for the game fair. Say hello if you see us about.
Nice little AYA ‘25’ finished off and heading out of the workshop.
Stunning pair of Blanch Damascus barrels finished off today.
