Many people will be able to support themselves during this difficult period, with the help of family members or friends. But if you are vulnerable, or simply don’t have anyone who can help with things like essential items, there is help available.

If you need a sick note for your employer whilst you are isolating please use the NHS 111 website, we cannot issue these.

We have had a lot of phone calls regarding isolating. We have also spoken to patients that are not isolating and should be.
The most recent guidance states that EVERYONE must stay at home to help stop the spread of coronavirus. You should only leave the house for 1 of 4 reasons:
• shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible
... • one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of your household
• any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person
• travelling to and from work, but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home
There is seperate advice about staying at home if you're high risk of getting seriously ill from coronavirus https://www.nhs.uk/…/corona…/advice-f or-people-at-high-risk/
And also staying at home if you or someone you live with has symptoms of coronavirus. https://www.nhs.uk/…/coronavirus-cov… /self-isolation-advice/

Asthma during the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
We have had a high volume of calls from patients concerned about their asthma.
The most important thing is to optimize your asthma control.
... People with poorly controlled asthma seem to be most at risk.
If your asthma is already well controlled, you do not need to do anything other than monitor your symptoms for new cough, breathlessness or wheeze and seek advice from NHS 111 online or GP.
If you feel your asthma is poorly controlled - please contact the practice to arrange a telephone assessment with the asthma nurse or GP.
We have also had a high volume of requests from patients for 'rescue packs.' Rescue packs are not indicated in asthma and we have been advised by the asthma team NOT to issue these.
Please see the following advice from asthma UK. https://www.asthma.org.uk/a…/triggers/c oronavirus-covid-19/….
If further information on asthma control becomes available, we will let you know.

Infant Vaccines - Given the risk of the serious infections that vaccines protect against we are continuing to offer these. We are doing our best to ensure these babies and children are here when there are limited patients in the waiting room. If you have an appointment please attend, we will contact you if we need to change the appointment time. Thanks for your continued support and understanding.

As per national guidance due to the coronavirus we are temporarily moving to an on-the-day telephone appointment system. Any patient requesting an appointment will be triaged on the phone by a clinician before any face to face appointments are made.
We are no longer able to book appointments in advance.
If you have an appointment arranged please contact us.
... Thank you for your support and understanding.

Due to updated national advice on coronavirus we are making a few changes from Monday 16th March.
All appointments must be made via the telephone not over the reception desk.
We will be offering telephone appointments rather than face to face, where appropriate.
... All future repeat prescriptions will be sent electronically to a chemist of your choice not left at the Surgery to be collected.
We will not be accepting new patient registrations from patients that already have a registered GP within our catchment area.
Forward booking of appointments will be restricted, this is hopefully temporary whilst we build our new appointment system and rota, bear with us.
If you have an appointment booked please attend as planned, we will contact you if anything changes. Anyone with a high temperature or cough should not attend.

From yesterday the public are being advised to stay at home (self isolate) regardless of travel history or contact with confirmed coronavirus cases, if they have:
a. A new continuous cough OR b. High temperature (of 37.8 degrees centigrade or higher)
... For this reason we will not be booking appointments for any patients that have these symptoms. Patients will need to follow this national guidance:
Individuals should stay at home (self isolate) for 7 days from the onset of symptoms. If someone has serious symptoms they cannot manage at home they should use the NHS 111 online system www.111.nhs.uk/covid-19

Coronavirus (COVID-19)
If you have these symptoms:
Cough... High temperature Shortness of breath
To protect yourself and others do not come to the Surgery, a Pharmacy or Hospital. Stay at home and ring 111 or use their online system https://111.nhs.uk/covid-19.
You will be asked about your symptoms, where you have been and who you have had contact with. This does not necessarily mean you have the illness but will help ensure you get the right advice and stop you from infecting others.

Just a reminder that the prescription phone line is for housebound patients only. For all other patients you need to order your medication either by using our online services or by placing your repeat slip in the box in reception. You could also be set up for repeat dispensing, we issue 6-12 months’ worth of prescriptions and send them to the chemist. Then you do not need to order each month you can go straight to your nominated chemist and collect your prescription. If you are not set up to use the online services all we need is your email address to set you up.

According to CarersUK an estimated 1.4 million people provide over 50 hours of unpaid care per week and because of this 81% have felt lonely or socially isolated as a result of their caring role. We have recently teamed up with Carers Together who are a local charity committed to supporting carers in the local area. They offer a range of services including; carers assessments, counselling, support for carers of patients in hospitals to help prepare for discharge, welfare righ...ts ensuring you are getting everything you are entitled to and support groups and activities. Their group and activity sessions are a great way to help socialise, meet new people and try something new, they include Dementia support activities, trips around the local area and pub lunches. We are now holding 1-1 sessions with a Carers Together Team Member here at Brotton Surgery on a Friday afternoon, if you would like to meet with the team for advice and support please call us to make an appointment.
