Clayhanger Jubilee Procession with Chopper bike escort and fancy dress parade, or maybe those were the fashions. Any idea as to the locale? Especially those older cottage style buildings in the background - are they still there? I've a dim memory of my Dad's Aunt Ivy and Uncle Tom living in a tiny place by a steep bridge when it seemed like the only house in Clayhanger....

One last handful from the Silver Jubilee. Any familiar faces in the parade and any ideas about the locale?

Having to re-post this as a correction to the previous Food Bank post, pass the message on with our apologies...
Please note the Food Bank is open Thursdays from 11.00 am till 1.00 pm.
Entrance is through the fire exit door at the back of Brownhills Community Centre.
... Feel free to use the car park to make it easier for yourself.
Can we ask our voucher holders to keep strictly to the 2 metre social distancing guidelines.
Mel from the Food Bank also asks this: PLEASE be patient with our AMAZING volunteers as there can only be 4 max at this time so they can work in a safe environment! so it may take a little longer than usual. we are still receiving any donations at this present time.
Thanks, folks from all of us & please stay safe.

And saving the best until last, we have the Fancy Dress contest, complete with judgely huddle. Who is the mysterious Match Head? And what about those two cute kids dressed as Her Majesty and Consort?

Some great 1960s footage of Chasewater for those of you missing the great outdoors - from a compilation made by Brownhills Cine Club in 2004.

A smaller batch today. It's 1977 again and Clayhanger crowns its Carnival Queen.

For those of you missing sports on TV, we have the late results of the 1977 Space Hopper finals... Anyone spot themselves, friends or relatives on these lively shots?

Another batch from 1977, prizes for fancy dress & artwork! Any ideas who the local celebs might be? And why is the fella in these shots wearing a straw boater indoors? Did we have Paul Nicholas lookalikes in them days?

User

This is what happens on a quiet day in a sunny corner of the car park at the Centre....

A rummage in the Association archive brought this up from the Clayhanger Silver Jubilee celebrations. Has anyone else spotted the drummer from the Stone Roses in rally jacket & bush hat who seems to be acting either as umpire or commentator?

User

... and what's going on here? And where? And with who?

User

Some more of the Clayhanger Silver Jubilee celebrations...

We've had to cancel a few things at the Community Centre but we're here, we're open...

Like everyone else, we're taking the current crisis day-to-day at the Centre. We'd expected a brilliant show to a sell-out audience and a bout of back-slapping and bonhomie afterwards.
The show is postponed folks, so we'll be holding it as soon as we can. In the meantime, we owe huge heartfelt thanks to our fantastic cast and director who have put in so much time and hard work.
We were mightily impressed at the dress rehearsals and very much looking forward to the shows. ...
We'll just have to wait that little bit longer...
All the best from us all at the Brownhills Community Centre & the Lamp

It's gone a bit quiet at the Centre today, so I'm rummaging through the archives. Found an album of photos from the Silver Jubilee of 1977. Recognise anyone?
