Broxtowe Youth Homelessness - Byh

At BYH, we work tirelessly to mitigate the impact of youth homelessness throughout Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. The project provides support for young people aged between 16-25 years old who have experienced homelessness or are at risk of homelessness. We aim to prevent homelessness in the first instance, however when this has not been possible we offer the help people need to rebuild their lives and help empower them to successfully move on from homelessness. We take referrals from within the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire vacinity via phone and email, we also take self referrals via these routes or individuals can simply present at our drop ins. We would then work in partnership with temporary accommodations such as hostels and shared housing to find and allocate a bed space for the individual affected. Obviously when this result has been achieved, their journey does not end there. They may still need support with applying to councils for housing, applying for benefits, or being referred for support from a local mental health service. For this we can provide the advocacy support they may need, such as assisting with phone calls or form filling via our drop in service. We can also help to start them off the right way in their new properties by providing home starter kits, food and toiletry parcels. Additionally to this, all our Project Workers are qualified to deliver educational and training courses such as Living Independently, Believe & Achieve, as well as Peer Impact Course that can also lead to individuals gaining some volunteer experience by supporting us to deliver our Home Street Home sessions in schools. These sessions are designed to educate young people about homelessness and break down the stigma attached to it.
