About Budd Shirtmakers

Authentic British Luxury. The Budd Way. Established 1910.

Budd Shirtmakers Description

Budd has been located in the Piccadilly Arcade since the company’s inception in 1910 and forms part of the elegant thoroughfare of shops that leads intoJermyn Street. Like all of Mayfair’s traditional arcade boutiques, the shop is tiny, but its size belies the wealth of goodies that can be found inside. Budd is a veritable Pandora’s box!

Our prime offering is shirts. We make all of our shirts by hand at our workshop here inEngland. We are also one of the few remainingWest Endshirtmakers to still have its own cutting room on the premises. This is located above the shop and has presided over theArcadefor over 60 years.

As well as shirts, Budd carries an extensive range of dresswear, nightwear, a fantastic selection of ties and bow ties, braces, socks, and many more accessories. We are passionate in celebrating and supporting British craft and workmanship and all of our product is sourced here in theUK. We are particularly proud of stocking many menswear items that are tricky to find today, such as waistcoat slips, stiff bibbed shirts, detachable collars and the softest chamois gloves.

“I came across a white #marcella #bowtie by Budd. White marcella bows are hardly rare, but this one was still in its paper wrapper from the mid-20th century. What’s more, on closer inspection it resembled no bow tie, marcella or otherwise, that I had ever seen. Instead of the familiar butterfly silhouette at each end, this bow tie had two superimposed flaps of fabric that looked like one half of a pre-prepared bow. Quite how they were to be united was beyond me, so I decided to present this curiosity to the nation, and when the nation didn’t want it I gave it to Budd, who, realising its historical significance, framed it and stuck it on the wall – where you can still see it”. @n_foulkes for @ft_howtospendit #BuddLondon

A beautiful illustration of our Piccadilly Arcade shop by @jonnyleighart. The Piccadilly Arcade runs between Piccadilly and Jermyn Street in central London. It was opened in 1909, having been designed by Thrale Jell, and is a Grade II listed building. Budd opened its doors in 1910 and is the only remaining Shirtmaker that still has a functioning cutting room upstairs #BuddLondon

The Budd Slim Fit features narrowed sleeves and a tapered waist. It follows the silhouette of the body and sits close, providing a flattering and polished look. The tails on our Slim Fit shirt are cut shorter at front and back than our Classic shirts, conceived so as the shirt may be worn either tucked in or left out. Whilst our Slim Fit might be slender in terms of its cut, it does not compromise on its quality. All of the characteristics that you would expect of a Budd shirt are carried through, ensuring continuity in quality and an authentic Budd experience. #BuddLondon

After one hundred years in the Piccadilly Arcade, March 2019 sees Budd open a second (pop-up) shop in London’s Chelsea. The shop is a focal point for the company’s new collection of ready to wear #slim and #tailored fit shirts, and soon to be a handy stop-off for our #madetomeasure service. The store also offers an edited collection of our core range of our ties, accessories and nightwear. Do stop by and say hello. #BuddLondon

Learn a little about Budd’s founding father, Harold Budd and the company’s early years in our blog. A family man, he steered the company through some of its most turbulent times and was responsible for introducing so many products that the company continues to celebrate today. Brushed cotton is wonderfully soft and perfect for the cooler months. It is a little heavier, making it comforting for chilly autumn days or ideal for weekends in spring. It is easy to maintain because it washes like ordinary cotton, and is handmade in our workshop in Andover, Hampshire #BuddLondon
